The Demand Planner analyzes demand from several sources internal & external, including but not limited to statistical forecasts, market information, customer forecasts, historical trends and known new and lost business. This role will be responsible for a crafting a demand plan that effectively characterizes future customer demand allowing for immediate production success, timely production to service customer needs, and limiting cost of variance.  


JOB FUNCTIONS: (Job functions include, but are not limited to the following)

  • Direct forecasting:
  • Develops a rolling 24-month demand plan for the Americas Foodservice business that delivers benchmark bias and forecast accuracy performance. The business consists of ~200 Demand forecasting units and two primary production facilities.
  • Updates customer demand requirements, identifies year over year changes in demand related to market, new or lost business, specification changes and product obsolescence. Continually enhances S&OP processes to improve forecast accuracy.
  • Works closely with capacity planning team to understand and improve the impact of the demand plan and variance on our assets with special focus paid to constrained plants/assets.
  • Understands and helps predict promotional activities and other sales tactics that impact the forecast. Incorporates market intelligence and develops statistical models that increase forecast accuracy. Provides analysis that aids in the executive decision-making process.
  • Responsible for forecast accuracy and bias on a monthly basis (MAPE) as the primary measures of success in the role.
  • Determines and presents root causes of sources of forecast error, targets improvement opportunities, and takes action to drive improvement.
  • Addresses demand-related issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Proposes and implements process and tool enhancements to improve demand forecast accuracy.
  • Communicates the demand forecast to all business functions to ensure that everyone is working off the same forecast.


  • Ability to define and demonstrate continuous improvement to meet targets and KPIs:
  • Sets benchmarks against key metrics, provides evaluation and leads cross-functional stakeholders to improve.
  • Participates in the development of integrated budgets.
  • Assists in alignment of demand plans, master schedules, factory schedules, and purchasing programs.
  • Supporting partner to the S&OP leadership team:
  • Develops the monthly S&OP Leadership package outlining key drivers within Americas Foodservice demand forecast, potential risks to forecast, market assumptions, new business expectations and overall summaries of major account and regional sales performance.
  • Contributes to the demand planning leadership consensus in order to align all parties with the monthly demand plan. Provides recommendations with analysis, countermeasures, and risks to the leadership team before finalizing the consensus forecast.
  • Leads the monthly demand plan consensus meetings between Sales, Commercial Management, Business Development, Directors of Operations, Supply Planning and Customer Service. Plays a leadership role in resolving conflicting stakeholder assumptions to arrive at a consensus forecast and escalates to leadership where required.
  • Item classification and Inventory control:
  • Manages the analytics to classify all items within the portfolio according to their demand characteristics.
  • Delivers inventory analytics to set policy related to differentiated fulfillment strategies (i.e., Make to Forecast, Convert to Order, and Make to Order).
  • Determines inventory control parameter values such and lead times and target service levels, and use these to set inventory targets that support working capital constraints and contractual safety stock levels.
  • Monitors adherence to inventory policy.
  • Reports key analytics in the month S&OP meetings, makes recommendations to improve, and actively collaborates with the supply planners and factories to drive the improvements.
  • Supports supply planning functions with analyses related to forecasts, inventories of raw material, WIP, and finished goods
  • Other duties as assigned




  • Six Sigma/Lean training
  • Advanced planning system (e.g., Logility, John Galt, Kinaxis, JDA, etc.)
  • Packaging industry experience




  • Four-year degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related field of study required
  • 1-3 years of experience with demand planning, supply planning, supply chain, forecasting or scheduling
  • Advanced skill level using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint




  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail



  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment
