The Director – Strategic Sourcing and Logistics Operations leads efforts designed to meet the business’ logistics sourcing and operational needs to support the company’s financial objectives.  Responsibilities include the development and implementation of world class on-time delivery services at or below competitive industry freight levels. Develop strategic relationships with motor, rail, and 3PL partners to ensure consistent flow of equipment capacity. Develop, implement, and administer policies, procedures and systems by which the Company’s supply base is effectively managed. Proactively evaluate, identify, and lead meaningful continuous improvement of the freight procurement requirements for the business. Responsibilities also include leading the transformation of the Logistics Operations Department into becoming stewards of logistics’ continuous improvement and driving the corporate-wide adoption of all Logistics systems, master data compliance, and organizing operations to support the business units.

This position has direct oversight of these functional teams; Transportation Strategic Sourcing, Transportation Operations, Logistics Analytics and Support which include TMS operations/execution, freight audit & payment, logistics claims, logistics master data, and analytics.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:  the following duties / responsibilities are representative of the nature / level of work assigned & are not necessarily all-inclusive


  • Define and develop the strategic Logistics sourcing and operations functions and structure
  • Lead company-wide sourcing of over $300 million in domestic and international transportation.
  • Ensure a best-in-class supply chain strategy is developed and effectively communicated to support the company’s overall strategic business plan, performance objectives, and customer requirements.
  • Demonstrate logistics thought leadership through awareness of industry leading-edge practices and processes.
  • Limit enterprise liability by adhering to all Federal DOT, FMCSA, & FRA transportation safety regulations.
  • Achieve year over year cost savings for logistics assets while maintaining surety of supply.
  • Establish KPI’s and performance metrics for delivered cost, capacity, payment terms, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop employees to foster a collaborative, constructive, and problem-solving working environment to improve performance, grow and broaden skillsets, and build a robust team
  • Manage Logistics Operations teams to drive accountability by utilizing data & metrics to support company & department objectives
  • Exploit the full capabilities of our TMS (Mercury Gate) to drive lower costs and improve customer service throughout the enterprise
  • Manage strategic relationships with TMS, freight audit & pay (FAP), logistics claims, and other logistics partners
  • Work with our Business Units & external customers to strengthen relationships, improve processes, and implement long-term logistics solutions
  • Work directly with the Director, Compliance & Enterprise Master Data Management to align Logistics master data with the company’s business strategic goals and objectives
  • Coordinate and support the Internal Audit function in periodic audits of Logistics master data quality, adherence to established process, and integrity of the company’s master data.
  • Oversee Logistics’ systems administration and monitoring of the quality and timeliness of all updates and resolutions across the enterprise
  • Proactively improve internal & external processes to automate workload, advance carrier performance, and reduce customer service issues
  • Actively develop and maintain individual metrics that support individual, department, and company goals
  • Ensure adherence to all relative GPI policies & procedures



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • 15 years of logistics experience including strategic sourcing, TMS operations, FAP, logistics claims, sourcing
  • Up to 25% travel required
  • Proven record of effective leadership and working with executive management
  • Proven record of coordinating with multiple departments to achieve business objectives
  • Proven record of effective management, including planning and decision-making, identifying priorities and bringing projects to successful completion in a timely manner; and maintaining a focus on high standards and quality.
  • Possess intellectual curiosity, initiative, and is self-directed
  • Must be creative, resourceful, organized & able to work well independently & as part of a team
  • Superior written & verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational skills, problem-solving, detail orientation, and interpersonal skills

Preferred / Plus:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Paper manufacturing industry experience and systems (SAP preferred)
  • Experience with BI / BW or similar reporting tools
  • Project management tools and experience
