The Director, Labor Relations is responsible for partnering with key stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive Labor Relations strategy, including policy, process development and improvement initiatives. This position serves as a senior HR leader responsible for working in concert with GPI Operations Leaders, Legal, and Executive Leadership in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the Labor Relations and bargaining strategy, positive employee relations and labor/management programs and policies.  This position reports to the VP of Labor and Employee Relations.

  • Develops and leads the Company’s approach and direction on collective bargaining including mid-term agreements, negotiations, and CBA administration.
  • Serves as first chair and leads the negotiating team through the negotiations process.
  • Works closely with Labor Relations team and operations leadership to guide problem resolution on complex grievances, arbitration preparation, board charges, mid-term bargaining and other labor litigation issues.
  • Partners with key stakeholders on the development and execution of system-wide labor strategy, policy, and process development-improvement protocols.
  • Partners with Finance and Total Rewards to develop negotiation strategies and understand the economic impact of such strategies.
  • Drives the Employee and Labor Relations strategic objectives through implementation, leading to continuous improvement in employee engagement.
  • Works closely with HR Business Partners and Employee Relations on developing site level positive employee relations strategies and tactics.
  • Provides leadership and training on labor relations, labor contract administration, and positive employee relations.    

Required Skills

  • 10 years’ experience within all aspects of Labor Relations, including knowledge of the NLRA, Taft-Hartley Act, union organizing campaigns and recognition processes, the collective bargaining process, and contract negotiation, labor contract interpretation and administration, management of complex grievance including familiarization with mediation and arbitration process and NLRB proceedings with the support of legal counsel, positive experience with constructive and productive engagement with labor organizations,
  • 3 years working within a multi-site environment with operations across North America
  • Experience partnering with Learning and Development and/or working with outside vendors on the creation and execution of Labor Relations training for people managers and HR Business Partners
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, business partnership skills, and communication skills including the ability to work with all levels of management, front-line employees, and labor unions and executive leadership
  • Courage to challenge the status quo and deliver results
