The Packaging Machinery division of Graphic Packaging International is a worldwide leader in machinery based packaging systems, committed to the optimum use of human and technical resources in a professional and businesslike manner, by providing precision machinery based projects and related services of superior quality, timely delivery and of the highest value through advanced technology and customer service.

The goal of our co-op program is to develop future engineering resources for our organization while providing support to our design engineers. We structure the co-op assignments so each candidate develops the ability with each new work term to accept an increasing level of complexity and self-reliance. Although we make no guarantee of employment, it is our goal to have our Interns fully capable of stepping into a full-time engineering position within our organization by the end of the program.


  • Design and detail parts and assemblies of automated packaging machinery using Solidworks 3D CAD.
  • Participate in design reviews.
  • Assist engineers and service technicians with visits to customer facilities to evaluate our equipment in the field.
  • Analyze machine failures for root cause, then propose and implement corrective actions.
  • Machine metal and plastic parts using lathes and CNC mills.
  • Assemble automated packaging machinery.
  • Test automated packaging machinery to insure it meets requirements.
  • Visit other GPI production facilities to see other aspects of the company, such as paper making and carton printing/converting.
  • Present a summary at the end of each work semester.


  • Must be a currently enrolled student majoring in mechanical engineering and must have completed the freshman year.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills required. Must display maturity and a high level of professionalism.
  • Strong computer skills desired.
  • Must be flexible and able to work overtime when required.
