Title:  Mgr., Electrical Engineering - Packaging Machinery

Manages assigned resources to develop, design, maintain and continuously improve GPI’s machinery product lines for the purposes of supporting the sale of GPI paperboard and cartons and facilitating growth of the paperboard carton market globally. The Electrical Engineering Manager will effectively interface with (1) Product Line Managers (2) Machinery Commercial group for project estimating and scheduling (3) Technical Services (4) Machinery Manufacturing. This interface will include both domestic and international groups/locations to achieve the goals of the department. 

JOB FUNCTION: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following: 

Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Electrical Engineering Group (all PMD locations, currently Atlanta and Crosby), including selection, development, and training of this staff.
  • Manage direct reports, scheduling, and assignment of resources to production and development projects and ongoing in-field activities.
  • Manage electrical engineering design activities and machinery manufacturing projects to meet customer specifications, schedule, and budget. 

Technical Oversight:

  • Maintain and improve electrical control systems of existing product lines to stay ahead of competition and create new packaging sales placement opportunities.
  • Analyze global safety standards as applicable to GPI packaging machinery, setting safety standards for GPI packaging machinery, and ensuring adherence to these standards.
  • Set electrical design and manufacturing standards for production of machinery systems at multiple manufacturing locations.Monitor and research market landscape to ensure electrical control systems of the machines are either suitable compared to the market or provide beneficial, promotable features.
  • Collaborate with product line managers, customers, sales and marketing to convert customer requirements into practical packaging solutions and system performance requirements.
  • Provide electrical design input during ideation phases of new projects. 

Sales Support:

  • Develop estimates and schedules for new developments, production machinery, parts/service/in-field modifications to include proposal generation and presentation to customers.
  • Provide sales support for standard and custom packaging systems and engineering services.
  • Review customer specifications and documents agreements of items that match and their specification and document the items that we will not adhere to.
  • Technical communications with customers as required managing customer expectations.

Field Support:

  • Manage electrical engineering support for machinery issues after installation, including both remote and onsite support.
  • Up to 30 % Travel required both domestic and international.


Required Skills

  • Expert understanding of automation controls including PLC systems, programming, and motion control (servos).
  • Project management experience should include supervision of project teams, and interaction with and oversight of, industrial customer schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.


  • Minimum ten years’ experience of electrical control design/build in packaging machinery or similar machinery, preferably in the beverage industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent technical experience. MBA a plus.
