We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced planner on our Beverage team.  This is an excellent opportunity to successfully impact business results.


The Promotion Planner is responsible for gathering, monitoring, and distributing critical promotional information to both the demand planning and tactical planning teams. This role is customer facing and will require a skill set that encourages GPI customer accountability to meet milestones for proper manufacturing execution and on-time delivery.  Promotion information from GPI customers includes event timing, duration, quantity, and other promotion-specific elements required for proper event delivery. Promotions may include but are not limited to new product rollout, end-of-life discontinuation, product transition and limited time offers.


This role will ensure appropriate and accurate event information is provided to demand and tactical planning in a timely manner to facilitate on time production.  Key promotion elements vary by customer and manufacturing site; therefore, the promotion planner will need to understand internal GPI manufacturing constraints and nuances to be successful in this position. 


The Promotion Planner is also responsible for preparing relevant promotion information presented in monthly Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) meetings. Multiple event KPIs are updated and reported in each S&OP session. This role will add insight, value, context, and content to previous, current, and future promotions within GPI. 


This position interfaces regularly with Customer Service, Demand Planning, Tactical Planning, Sales, and the New Business Commercialization Team.  This role routinely makes recommendations on volume, duration, and timing probabilities to reduce risk and inventory exposure.  As needed, this role is expected to engage with customers before deadlines are missed and ensure customers meet agreed upon deadlines per GPI contracts and policies.  This role also owns facilitating trade-off conversations with the stakeholders mentioned above to ensure adherence to required inputs and recommendations for resolution if/ when unanticipated issues occur.


Finally, this role owns driving continuous promotional event planning improvement both inside and outside of GPI. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with customers and sales on multiple aspects of event planning including timing, duration, and volume of new product launches, end-of-life product cycles, product transitions, and limited time offers.
  • Accurately analyze, predict, and recommend cannibalization effects to base items where applicable.
  • Identify and drive adoption of KPIs as they apply to event management success.
  • Report event management KPIs in monthly S&OP meetings and be responsible for any commensurate follow up or action items.
  • Actively participate when new business is onboarded and ensure critical planning elements are captured and updated where necessary.
  • Thoughtfully communicate to the customer GPI expectations around lead times, minimum runs, etc. and proactively report on program needs and progress.
  • Create and manage multiple promotion calendars for a diverse customer base.
  • Prepare, deliver, and present Promotion Planning portion of S&OP deck and be responsible for its content; bring insights to the meeting with options for minimizing OTIF misses and other constraint-related issues.
  • Represent and be the “voice” of Promotion Planning with Sales, Demand Planning, Supply Planning, and Customer Service counterparts so that timely, accurate inputs are proactively managed and provided to downstream supply to ensure the best demand signal is passed for optimal event fulfilment.
  • Identify and proactively communicate adverse changes to demand inputs and work with planning counterparts toward appropriate remedy and resolution.

Required Skills

  • Proven customer management experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the pulp and paper industry servicing Beverage customers or in a CPG with heavy promotional activity.
  • Experience working with or in a sales setting where persuasion, influence and accountability are used to drive positive results for both customer and company
  • Appreciation of overall manufacturing process and constraints that typically occur within a complex manufacturing environment
  • Experience managing time-sensitive projects
  • Experience making effective recommendations to peers combined with the ability to convince and persuade others with fact-based reasoning and logic
  • Experience providing exceptional event-related OTIF to an organization’s customers coupled with an eye toward cost-to-serve
  • Proven ability to collaborate, negotiate, and influence both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good understanding of and exposure to E2E Supply Chain best practices
  • Ability to work in a matrixed structure
  • Ability to listen to others and link to others’ ideas
  • Attention to detail and a passion for data accuracy


Required Experience

  • BS or BA in business, communications, supply chain, or equivalent experience in a sales function that has interacted heavily with supply chain planning
  • 5-8 years of a combination of go-to-market or promotion planning experience, supply chain planning, sales, and operations for a global or multi-plant manufacturing company with demonstrated increasing responsibility. Preference for multiple years involved in promotional planning.
