Title:  Risk Management Engineer

The Engineer, Risk Management, will provide technical solutions to all of GPI’s operations. The position is responsible for property preservation including compliance/negotiation with our insurance carrier’s engineering recommendations, NFPA, and other regulatory agencies.

The key customers are the operators of GPI’s mills and converting locations. The key deliverables are Best Practices, risk management, technical support for property loss prevention, and problem solving. This role applies knowledge, skills and abilities to recommendations made by GPI’s property insurance carrier; provides assistance with the planning and implementation of actions that include physical changes to structures, and human element conditions were capital is not required.


Our corporate office is in Atlanta, GA; this position can be located anywhere in the US, as long as the person is located near a major airport.


Job Duties: (include, but are not limited to the following)

  • Develop and maintain a system to facilitate efficient review of progress towards closure of property loss prevention recommendations and communication with stakeholders. At a minimum, this system would include the following components:
    • Actively monitor progress of each open recommendation,
    • Prepare executive summary level reports approximately twice a year,
    • Work directly with facilities to implement corrective actions,
    • Liaise with property carrier, facility and corporate management.
  • Provide monthly status updates on the Company’s Risk Improvement Plan.
  • Present Quarterly updates on the Company’s Risk Improvement Plan to Risk Management, property insurance carrier and property broker.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to update/amend the new Risk Improvement Plan annually. Prioritizing recommendations and presenting a business case for capital allocation.
  • Support and assist the Company’s Center of Excellence regarding boiler and turbine generator recommendations at our mills.
  • Track property damage incidents and create action items for other facilities to review in an effort to prevent similar losses.
  • Expand upon the Company’s Property Preservation Manual.
  • Create a Corporate Policy and Procedure for the preservation of assets and best practices, to be approved by Senior Management and implemented at all Company sites.
  • Review all Engineering reports and Plan Reviews, commenting as appropriate.
  • Participate in the insurer’s field engineering closing meetings at Company locations, either in-person or remotely.
  • Participate in capital projects.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering.
  • 10 years loss prevention experience (pulp & paper industry a plus).
  • Heavy experience in industrial and manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with property insurance recommendations is a plus.
  • Experience in multi-national organizations is a plus.


Required Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of FM Global Loss Prevention Data Sheets.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA Standards.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft (Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Effective leadership, relationship, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Results-driven focus.
  • Ability to present technical data to non-engineers.
  • Great organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • Familiarity with BLRBAC is a plus.
  • Able to travel at least 50-75% of the time.
