Position Purpose

This position can expect to play a leadership role in the overall strategic capital planning and execution for the converting business. This includes not only short terms capitals plans (0-3 years) but also longer terms projects that positively impact the competitiveness of the converting operations. Some of the activities includes the creation, development, planning, and completion of capital projects on time and on budget. This will be a highly visible role with frequent interactions with key company senior leadership.

This Engineering leader will plan and monitor work schedules and cash flows, and work with multiple and diverse teams. Some of the responsibilities also include aligning engineering activities and projects with companies strategic goals and objectives, providing expert guidance and support, identifying cutting edge technologies, and maintaining positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Basic Function: Develop strategic capital plans that align with the companies mid and long-term strategic growth plans. To lead a team of project engineers that develop capital project plans and budgets, oversee all equipment installs, manage all contractors, and assure the projects are completed on-time and on budget.

Principle Functional Responsibilities:

  • Sharing key plan and activities with Senior Management.
  • Responsible for monitoring the project team's overall process and operations from conceptualization until completion, ensuring the adherence to specifications, within the budget's goals, and the required deadline.
  • As tasks come in and new stages of the project are met, assign tasks and responsibilities to members of the team so that everything is completed on time. This involves mentoring the project team and managing its performance
  • Maintaining good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implementing best practice engineering methods.
  • Providing technical guidance to engineering teams and top management.
  • Supporting established organizational objectives by developing goals and strategies.
  • Presenting capital budgets and plans.
  • Finding and implementing ways to improve capital project cost-efficiency.
  • Dismissing and hiring new staff.

  • Ability to navigate complex organization structures to successfully complete assignments.
  • Must be available to travel up to 75%.

Desired Background:

  • 10 -15 years of related experience, including 5 years of manufacturing experience with close support of production equipment.
  • 10-15 years capital project management experience.
  • Printing industry experience a plus.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Microsoft Project, spreadsheets, and financial analysis.
  • Project management and leadership skills.
  • Technical training at various levels of the organization.
  • Excellent team skills - as team member and trainer and developer.
  • Demonstrated mechanical ability.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Engineering bachelor’s degree with strong manufacturing curriculum also considered 

Essential Job Functions include the following:

  • General hours of work are Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (EST). Overtime is frequently required including availability on the weekends to answer calls.
  • Must be able to travel long distances by car and plane.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to hear and verbally respond. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands to finger, handle and feel. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision. Employee is required to wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses and hearing protecting when walking in the manufacturing area. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles and extreme heat. The noise level in the immediate work environment is normally quiet, however requires exposure to a noisy manufacturing environment.
