Mission

As a Director of Business Strategy for Graphic Packaging’s largest business unit you will work directly with the President of the Americas and you will be instrumental in providing a strategic representation of the future opportunities for the Americas Business Division. 

This position requires an experienced, data-driven, analytical, collaborative, and influential leader who can work effectively across a variety of stakeholders. The Director of Business Strategy will work closely with the Senior Leadership team and key subject matter experts to develop a progressive view of the industry and the opportunities within.

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:   

  • Analyze potential business models in order to realize profitability opportunities and provide insights into qualitative analyses.
  • Builds analytical models and performs regular financial, competitive, performance, and market analyses for the business in order to comprehensively value business opportunities
  • Ensure well-founded strategies are presented to the relevant leadership using compelling business presentations
  • Create regular analysis reports for senior strategy management, business leadership and executives, and relevant stakeholders for purposes of further decision making.
  • Collaborate across the organization with top leadership, aiding in individualized strategy formulation for different projects and initiatives.
  • Partner with business leaders to recommend and implement profitable strategies for GPI using economic thinking to develop sound understanding of current and future business.
  • Develop a deep understanding of current market sector, including providers, producers, value chain analysis, profitability, and market competitive dynamics.
  • Develop a diverse array of knowledge sources to support market outlook/point-of-view and economic thinking including the POV of GPI business segments.
  • Identify potentially disruptive effects on the business segment and how they might create opportunities.
  • Build sustainable knowledge systems to optimally share and apply learnings and propose future market scenarios which encompass uncertainty.

Required Skills

Communication Skills: The Strategy Manager must be a strong communicator, both verbally and in written form. This is a highly sensitive and collaborative role that demands that the Strategy Manager routinely interact with and council top leadership and executives on the strategic direction of the business.

As such, they must have the ability to clearly convey information and instructions, which will determine the effectiveness with which strategies are executed across the business and ultimately determine whether the business achieves its goals and objectives. The Strategy Manager will also interact with the business’s consumers to gain accurate information and insights; he must be able to clearly articulate queries that will in turn prompt relevant and useful responses.

Communication skills for the Strategy Manager will also be useful in the creation of regular reports for the business’s leadership, which must be easily digestible, unambiguous, engaging, informative, and convincing.

Analytical Skills: A suitable candidate will demonstrate exceptionally good analytical skills, an ability to translate raw information into actionable strategies and initiatives. They will have a demonstrated ability to perform standard analyses such as performance analyses, competitive analyses, market analyses, etc.

MS Office: The candidate will also demonstrate proficiency in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint, which will be necessary for the creation of both visually and verbally engaging analyses reports and presentations, for the business’s leadership and management as well as senior strategy management.

Interpersonal Skills: A candidate for this position must demonstrate strong attention to detail, have high-energy and a proactive nature, have a positive can-do attitude, be result-driven, have exceptional problem-solving skills, and work comfortably in a group/collaborative setting. They must also work comfortably with business executives and leadership, have an ability to multitask and meet aggressive deadlines, and demonstrate an ability to stay calm under pressure.

People Skills: The Strategy Manager must be a people person who also has the ability to lead, inspire, and motivate a team into consistent performance improvement. The Strategy Manager must also be passionate about team building and be an outgoing, likable, and relatable individual who forms strong and lasting connections with others.

 


Required Experience

Education: The Strategy Manager needs to have a bachelor’s degree or MBA in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or any other related business field.  An equivalent of the same in working experience is also acceptable for the position.

Experience: A candidate for this position will have had at least 7 years of working experience in a consulting role or corporate strategy position within a fast-paced and dynamic business environment. The candidate will have gained substantial exposure to corporate strategy development and analysis with direct exposure to top management.

They will also have had experience being a central piece of a wide range of strategic decision-making processes and as a result have become comfortable assessing a business and making appropriate choices. A suitable candidate will be a natural collaborator with an ability to establish and maintain lasting relationships both internally and externally.
