We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated passionate professional with proven analytical skills and a thorough understanding of manufacturing and inventory management principles. This is a vital role in our Planning organization with the opportunity for the position to evolve and develop as it aligns with our OneGPI and Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process business model.


The Supply Planning Manager leads a team responsible for medium- and long-term planning execution at Graphic Packaging International (GPI). The Supply Planning Team creates the consensus supply plan balancing inventory and capacity with the objective to meet demand on-time and in full. The Supply Planning Manager ensures the team creates and delivers strategic, actionable supply plans to the Tactical planning team for execution.

The Supply Planning Manager owns the replenishment strategy across the Supply Chain network. This role reviews the rough-cut capacity plan (RCCP) to ensure the supply plan is aligned with the capacity available and escalates issues through the S&OP/E process when required. The role participates regularly in the S&OP/E process and provides alternatives for different supply constraints. She/he collaborates with the Material Planner Manager to solve supply issues. In addition, this role reviews service levels and inventory exceptions.

The Supply Planning Manager will play a hands-on role in the overall success of the Supply Planning Organization with the goals of creating exceptional customer service and meeting or exceeding relevant corporate KPIs. The Supply Planning Manager will be responsible for the Team’s use and continuous improvement of strategic planning processes and systems to ensure on-time availability of manufactured finished goods and components. She/he will also drive collaboration efforts that improve on time in full (OTIF) order fulfilment.

This role provides presentation content to the Regional Supply Planning Manager for use in the sales and operations planning (S&OP) monthly leadership meeting. She/he is responsible for the cadence of touchpoints, meetings, and process adherence needed to deliver accurate, timely supply plans. The Supply Planning Manager also leads formal escalations for timely decision making and appropriate resolution boundaries.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the supply planning function for a region of the Americas Converting business.
  • Monthly preparation and presentation of Supply Planning portions of S&OP process.
  • Lead cross functional teams to collaborate on root cause issues with Demand Planning, Tactical Planning, Operations, Sales and Customer Service Leads
  • Co-own customer service delivery and inventory target adherence with the Tactical Planning Manager.
  • Own inventory target strategy, factory/ asset loading strategy, run strategies, and new business incorporation strategies for a region.
  • Drive adoption of KPIs as they apply to Supply Planning success
  • Ensure medium and long-term product availability across region markets
  • Ensure exceptions (supply & demand imbalances) are managed in the medium- and long-term planning horizons
  • Lead the rate review process for all factories (and factory assets) in the region and ensure all inputs to the Advanced Planning System (APS) are representative of actual performance and asset capabilities.
  • Collaborate with peers on routing business across the overall network to optimize freight footprint, asset efficiency, inventory targets, and targeted asset/ factory load levels.
  • Define service level guidelines for a region and numerous product groupings
  • Act as a primary escalation point for factory to factory or asset to asset trade-offs in the S&OP and S&OE processes and manage and represent strategic planning in these processes.
  • Collaborate on root cause issues with Demand Planning, Tactical Planning and Customer Service Leads
  • Develop, support, and monitor department objectives with the goal of achieving executional planning annual targets
  • Drive adoption of GPI APS software while continually working toward improved process and tool enhancement
  • Represent and be the “voice” of Strategic Planning with Sales, Demand Planning, Tactical Planning, and Customer Service counterparts to ensure timely, accurate inputs are proactively managed to ensure optimal order fulfilment
  • Engage with Center of Excellence counterparts to ensure APS solution maintains functional integrity while offering insight from a management perspective for continuous improvement
  • Escalate to more senior Supply Planning Managers and Regional Supply Planning manager as required.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of plant scheduling and 0–2-month tactical planning.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders (especially manufacturing, Sales, and demand planning)
  • Ability to make effective recommendations to senior management with the support of more senior supply planners if needed.
  • Experience providing exceptional OTIF to an organization’s customers with demonstrated understanding of internal trade-offs that achieve corporate goals and objectives
  • Experience using data and exercising sound judgement to effectively solve problems
  • Experience working effectively in the face of ambiguity or shifting priorities while demonstrating flexibility and resilience in response to constraints, mistakes, and adversity
  • Domain knowledge in Supply Planning, Promotion Planning, Inventory Planning, and factory Master Planning.
  • Experience with ERP and APS (preferably Kinaxis RapidResponse, E2Open or o9)
  • Good understanding of and exposure to E2E Supply Chain best practices
  • Ability to work in a matrix structure
  • Ability to listen to others and link to others’ ideas
  • Attention to detail and a passion for data accuracy

Required Experience

  • BS or BA in supply chain management, science and/or engineering. Master or advanced degree (sciences or business) preferred
  • 4-6 years of supply chain experience in planning, customer service or logistics for a global or multi-plant manufacturing company with demonstrated increasing responsibility
  • Management experience strongly preferred
  • Previous experience in paperboard packaging converting highly preferred
  • APICS certification preferred
