JOB SUMMARY: The Maintenance Lead drives improved equipment reliability by ensuring all installations/repairs are completed with quality workmanship and per best maintenance practices. The manager will assist with the development of solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Provide direct supervision, technical direction, administrative support, and leadership for the maintenance department.
  • Hands on involvement with all PLC/Controls programming projects (troubleshooting, modifying, upgrading etc.).
  • Assists Maintenance Manager with plant-wide maintenance and capital, maximizing asset reliability, uptime, and cost effectiveness with available resources.
  • Initiate work orders and actions to correct unsafe conditions.
  • Provide long range planning for facility and equipment needs including capital and major repairs.
  • Attend daily maintenance planning and coordination meetings to help prioritize scheduled work and efficiently handle “break-in” work as necessary.
  • Provide technical assistance and creative thinking during planning and coordination meetings to deliver the most cost-effective solutions to mechanical and instrumentation issues.
  • Prioritizes work to be performed by the maintenance technicians; consulting with Reliability/Planning Engineers on work to be contracted to outside services.
  • Work with corporate reliability group to develop predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance program.
  • Schedule work assignments, vacations, and address other personnel issues for the maintenance personnel.
  • Assist in development and execution of the maintenance department “outage” planning strategy.
  • Other duties as assigned

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years related experience
  • Manufacturing experience required
  • Experience operating hand jacks, electric pallet jacks and forklifts and clamp trucks preferred
  • Proven Leadership skills and the ability to motivate people to perform at high levels

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology or related field and/or equivalent experience in a converting facility is required.
  • 5-7 years of Maintenance & Electrical repair, PLC fault diagnostics, and mechanical maintenance in a light manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with Reliability Centered Maintenance (Preventive and Predictive Maintenance) Programs.
  • Experience and knowledge of roll stock cutting machines, printing presses, die cutting machines, and straight-line gluers is preferred.
  • Experience leading preventative/predicative/precision maintenance programs.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER/OFFICE EQUIPMENT SKILLS

  • SAP, MS Office and database programs
  • Requires use of all general office equipment (e.g. fax, copier, telephone, etc.)

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Company issued Fork Truck Operator’s License
  • Company issued Clamp Truck Operator’s License

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is Monday - Friday, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lifting up to 20 lbs frequently (11-33% of the time) and lifting 21-60 lbs occasionally (1-10% of the time)
  • Requires use of both feet frequently
  • Requires use of both hands for simple grasping, firm grasping, fine manipulation and repetitive actions continuously
  • Requires right and left hand coordination
  • Ability to stand, climb, walk, kneel and crouch frequently (34-66% of the time)
  • Ability to bend, squat, reach above shoulder and at waist or lower, twist, stretch, push/pull with force up to 45 lbs, carry, grasp with force up to 90 lbs and finger occasionally (1-33% of the time)
  • Ability to read, write, hear, see, speak and have agility on a continuous basis
  • Rarely laying on back to complete preventative and breakdown maintenance to perform mechanical and electrical services to ensure plant operations
  • Pushing (occasionally) horizontal at a self-selected height with a force of 35 lbs indoors on a smooth and inclined surface to complete fabrication of requested items to perform mechanical and electrical services to ensure plant operations
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment
  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature and loud noises
  • PPE required: Steel-toed/safety footwear, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Cut resistant Safety Gloves, Hair Net, Beard Net
