JOB SUMMARY: The Maintenance Technician drives improved equipment reliability by ensuring all installations/repairs are completed with quality workmanship and per best maintenance practices.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

 

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed to keep machines and mechanical equipment operating efficiently and in a safe manner.
  • Support repair and maintenance of manufacturing equipment including hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems as well as troubleshooting as needed.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Manager to establish maintenance schedules on various machines so as to minimize downtime on production.
  • Create and manage work orders, conducting necessary maintenance or repairs as needed.
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures at all times and ensure all Maintenance Personnel are following Lockout/Tagout procedures at all times.
  • Inspect, operate or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
  • Dismantle machines, equipment or devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools or power tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters or doing other preventive maintenance actions.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals or parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Repair machines, equipment or structures, using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices.
  • Maintain constant communication with Maintenance Manager regarding any maintenance issues that may arise.
  • Complete daily reports outlining maintenance or repairs conducted that day.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Support all safety, food quality and sanitation initiatives and policies
  • Follow Graphic Packaging International safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is Monday - Friday, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lifting up to 20 lbs frequently (11-33% of the time) and lifting 21-60 lbs occasionally (1-10% of the time)
  • Requires use of both feet frequently
  • Requires use of both hands for simple grasping, firm grasping, fine manipulation and repetitive actions continuously
  • Requires right and left hand coordination
  • Ability to stand, climb, walk, kneel and crouch frequently (34-66% of the time)
  • Ability to bend, squat, reach above shoulder and at waist or lower, twist, stretch, push/pull with force up to 45 lbs, carry, grasp with force up to 90 lbs and finger occasionally (1-33% of the time)
  • Ability to read, write, hear, see, speak and have agility on a continuous basis
  • Rarely laying on back to complete preventative and breakdown maintenance to perform mechanical and electrical services to ensure plant operations
  • Pushing (occasionally) horizontal at a self-selected height with a force of 35 lbs indoors on a smooth and inclined surface to complete fabrication of requested items to perform mechanical and electrical services to ensure plant operations
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment
  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature and loud noises
  • PPE required: Steel-toed/safety footwear, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Cut resistant Safety Gloves, Hair Net, Beard Net

 


Required Skills

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated experience with Reliability Centered Maintenance (Preventive and Predictive Maintenance) Programs.
  • Experience and knowledge of roll stock cutting machines, printing presses, die cutting machines, and straight-line gluers is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Required Experience

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 1-3 years related experience
  • Multi-craft technician preferred but not required
  • Manufacturing experience required
  • Experience operating hand jacks, electric pallet jacks and forklifts and clamp trucks preferred
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have excellent attendance, be detail oriented, be able to work independently and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
