Assistant Superintendent II Maintenance – Mechanical (Power)
MISSION / SUMMARY:
The Assistant Superintendent II Maintenance – Mechanical will be responsible for managing the mechanical maintenance in the Augusta Mill Power and Recovery areas. This is a leadership role where the individual is responsible for providing direction, guidance and support for all direct and indirect reports. Individual will be primarily responsible for the safety, efficiency, productivity, engagement and overall effectiveness of the area maintenance workforce.
Specific responsibilities include the continuous improvement of reliability systems including: MOPS, planning, work execution, vibration, and other preventive mechanical maintenance and equipment care efforts. The role also includes development and execution of a five-year area reliability improvement and equipment maintenance strategy, development and execution of the annual repair budget.
JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.
- Partners with Operations Maintenance Coordinator and Process Supervisor to ensure efficient planning and coordination of maintenance work.
- Responsible for daily and annual outage maintenance planning in designated area.
- Daily effective communication with hourly and salaried maintenance mechanical personnel.
- Directs contractors and ensures compliance with safety and quality requirements.
- Effectively maintain planned work order backlog to ensure it is greater than two weeks within regular work hours.
- Create and maintain BOM’s and PM’s.
- Ensures Contracted PM’s and Mill PM’s are recorded.
- Ensures all PMs are presented to the MOPs team for scheduling.
- Participates in Maintenance weekend duty rotation.
Required Skills
SCHEDULE DEMANDS:
- General schedule is an 8 -hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Frequent, bending, stooping, squatting, as well as frequent movement throughout the facility for extended periods of time up to 8 -hour
- Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
- Use of various office, hand tools or electrical equipment
- Employee is required to wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses and hearing protecting when in the manufacturing area.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles and times of increased heat and humidity.
- The noise level in the immediate work environment is normally quiet, however requires exposure to a noisy manufacturing environment.

Required Experience
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
- Five plus years’ progressive and practical pulp mill operation experience.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:
- BS Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical experience (Mechanical Engineer Preferred)
- Five plus years of relevant maintenance or operations management experience
- Supervisory experience (Preferably in both maintenance and production)
- Thorough knowledge of reliability concepts and application
- Demonstrated leadership
