The Mechanical Capital Project Engineer will be assigned to the Capital Project Group in the Augusta Mill and will report to the Engineering Manager. The individual provides Mechanical design support for the development, design and installation of Capital Projects. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide Technical Leadership to the Engineering group for Mechanical portion of projects. Primary job responsibilities include the following: 

  • Review and or define project scopes, develop and or review cost estimates as it pertains to the mechanical part of project
  • Identifying customer requirements and researching suitable solutions
  • Develop and or review detailed engineering drawings as developed by engineering consultants such as P&ID’s, equipment details, general arrangements, installation details etc.
  • Ensure that such designs and drawings comply with all Augusta Mill and Graphic Packaging International Specifications and guidelines.
  • Manage and implement the agreed scope for mechanical portion of projects to an established time and budget constraints
  • Specify and or review all types of Mechanical equipment following all Augusta Mill and International Specifications and guidelines.
  • Writing and/or overseeing developing of scopes of work – bidding out work – coordinating with Purchasing.
  • Purchase process equipment used in the kraft paper making process.
  • Analyze quotations for equipment and installation labor recommend suppliers and issue requisitions and provide approvals and/or feedback to project manager.
  • Perform safety observations, safety and quality checks for suppliers and contractors.
  • Oversee their work and be responsible for their safety on site.
  • Coordinate and supervise construction and startup activities with project teams, maintenance and operations
  • Supervise (Manage) installation of process control and power distribution systems design including electrical equipment layout, single line diagrams, and wiring schedules, loops, elementaries etc.
  • Provide technical support to maintenance and operations on as needed basis
  • Provide "on call" technical support on regular rotation basis including weekend mechanical area duty rotation.
  • Primary liaison between project team and reliability engineering, operations and maintenance organizations.
  • Supervise automation system design including programming
  • Lead in project design review meetings

Required Experience

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical(preferred) Engineering (Chemical or Paper Science with strong mechanical aptitude is also possible)
  • Pulp and Paper experience will be considered an asset.
  • 10 years’ experience in Paper Mill Power, pulping or paper making will be an asset
  • Maintenance experience with reliability aptitude is necessary
