Title:  E&I Maintenance Planner (Paper)

MISSION / SUMMARY:  

The Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisor/Planner (E&I) will be assigned to the Maintenance Group in the Augusta Mill and will report directly to the Assistant Superintendent E&I. The position will be responsible for the planning, scheduling and supervision of all E&I maintenance in the designated department. In addition, this position receives and reviews each work order for completeness, validity of the priority, clarity and accuracy of information. Other activities include estimating E&I maintenance jobs by showing sequence of steps, number of craftsperson man-hours and materials required. The position also plans, and schedules mill maintenance including daily and annual downtime and drives improved equipment reliability by ensuring all installations/repairs are completed with quality workmanship and per best maintenance practices. The supervisor / Planner will assist with the development of solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations. 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following. 

 Partners with Operations, Maintenance teams and Engineering to ensure efficient planning and coordination of E&I maintenance work.

  • Responsible for daily and annual outage maintenance planning in designated area.
  • Daily effective communication with hourly and salaried maintenance personnel.
  • Directs contractors and ensures compliance with safety and quality requirements.
  • Effectively maintain planned work order backlog to ensure it is greater than two weeks within regular work hours.
  • Create and maintain Bill of Materials and Preventive Maintenance checks.
  • Ensures contracted Preventive Maintenance checks and mill Preventive Maintenance checks are recorded.
  • Ensures all Preventive Maintenance checks are presented to the Maintenance Operation Protocol team for scheduling.
  • Participates in Maintenance weekend duty rotation.
  • Ensures that proper safety practices are followed.
  • Directs responsibility for hourly Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance personnel. Coordinates with Maintenance Planners to ensure that all preventive maintenance activities are scheduled and completed.
  • Initiates work orders and actions to correct unsafe conditions.
  • Attends daily maintenance planning and coordination meetings to help prioritize scheduled work and efficiently handle “break-in” work as necessary.
  • Provides Electrical and Instrumentation technical assistance and creative thinking during planning and coordination meetings to deliver the most cost-effective solutions to electrical and instrumentation issues.
  • Prioritizes work to be performed by Electrical and Instrumentation personnel; consulting with Reliability/Planning Engineers on work to be contracted to outside services.
  • Works with reliability group to ensure that downtime preventive maintenance programs or permanent E&I equipment modifications are put in place to address the “root cause(s)” of downtime and quality issues.
  • Schedules work assignments, vacations, and address other personnel issues for E&I maintenance personnel.
  • Assists in development and execution of “outage” planning strategy.
  • Collaborates with department operators to understand operational issues as well as process and equipment opportunities.
  • Mentor and coach operations/maintenance personnel on the technical fundamentals as appropriate.

Required Skills

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE: 

  • 3-5 years of E&I maintenance planning / supervision experience preferred.
  • 5 years of maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of reliability concepts and application
  • Ability to read schematics.
  • Proficient in SAP, Microsoft Projects and Microsoft Office.

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE: 

  • High School diploma or GED, required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, electrical engineering or equivalent work experience
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills

Required Experience

SKILLS: 

  • Skilled in utilization of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), preferably SAP.
  • Multi-tasking skills with the ability to meet deadlines on a continuous basis.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Project, Excel and Word.
  • Ability to estimate man-hours and costs for maintenance work.
  • Strong leader and team player and communicator.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
  • Use of ladders and stairs in the mill environment.
