Environmental Engineer III

 

MISSION / SUMMARY:

Ensures compliance with regulatory agency policies, regulations and permits pertaining to air, land and water.  Analyzes environmental conditions and recommends changes to prevent non-compliance with established permits and regulations through system development.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Review reports of testing and auditing; report relevant issues to management.
  • Manage compliance on at least one of the primary disciplines of water, air or solid waste.
  • Supervises a technical support laboratory of 4 technicians.
  • Evaluate significance of hazards and determines proper disposal and management methods.
  • Recommend action to reduce pollution to levels that conform to local, state, or federal regulations.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and outside consultants on more difficult issues.
  • Handle difficult issues and problems, and refer more complex issues to higher level staff.
  • Possesses intermediate to working knowledge of subject matter. 
  • Drives continuous improvement opportunities including system development
  • Promotes employee engagement to achieve desired results
  • Maintains complex environmental permitting and regulatory tracking

 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous on-site working experience, in an integrated Pulp and Paper mill with experience in the Kraft liquor cycle

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • BS Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or related or science field.
  • 3 years of demonstrated practical/technical experience
  • Demonstrated ability to engage a work force
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proactive problem solver

 

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is an 8 -hours M-F assignment and rotating weekend duty coverage; employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent, bending, stooping, squatting, as well as frequent movement throughout the facility for extended periods of time up to 8 -hour
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office, hand tools or electrical equipment
  • Employee is required to wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses and hearing protecting when in the manufacturing area.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles and times of increased heat and humidity.
  • The noise level in the immediate work environment is normally quiet, however requires exposure to a noisy manufacturing environment.
