Process Control Software, Hardware and Network Engineer.

This position will be under the direction of the Electrical, Instrument and Controls Reliability Manager, the Process Control Software, Hardware and Network Engineer will provide network design, project management, and systems administration for the Augusta Mill process control network. The process control network is the network for the Augusta mill that interfaces all control and monitoring systems and transports traffic and data between them

The Process Control Software, Hardware and Network Engineer will play a key role in the oversight of the Process Control Network Construction, network and systems architecture design, implementation and maintenance

Focus will be on enhancing systems and network capacity, redundancy, high availability, establishing mill-wide process control network procedures, implementation of network changes and application security best practices and technologies while maintaining 100% performance for critical operational applications. The position will work as part of a process control team, coordinating closely with staff. Additionally, the Process Control Software, Hardware and Network Engineer will serve as a technical advisor for all Process Control Capital and expense projects and networks.

Process Control Software, Hardware and Network Engineer responsibilities and requirements include:

  • Support design, implementation and maintenance of highly available, multi-use, and redundant process control area network infrastructure utilizing fiber optics, copper and
  • Perform contract administration, including management of project schedules, budgeting, and contract documents.
  • Oversight of the administration of Cisco, Dell and Emmerson routers, switches, and firewalls, network monitoring tools, and anti-spam appliances.
  • Oversight and repair of all process control engineering work stations and clients. This includes oversight of outside Network resources when needed.
  • Oversight of the administration of network and system monitoring tools including SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor, Cisco Live Action, and Microsoft System Center applications.
  • Maintain network security policies and have knowledge of current security best practices and tools for a highly secure and available production environment.
  • Network systems planning and diagramming (CAD) for documentation.
  • Use of protocol analyzers to identify and resolve network issues and monitor network usage trends.
  • Experience with LAN hardware including patch panels, Fiber Optic, Cat5e and Cat 6 wiring.
  • Work with IT providers to manage existing circuits, troubleshoot outages, and install service upgrades.
  • Experience with formal change management process including development of change management plan for production upgrades.
  • Manage hardware / software installations for Delta V DCS. To include, DVOP servers, Dell Vertex Servers, Dell workstations and Clients.
  • Manage Process Control Domain servers.
  • Implement and manage process control redundancy hardware and applications to eliminate all operational downtime.
  • Conduct routine surveys of PC network and systems to ensure systems are operational and comply with HS security guidelines.
  • Maintain all backup systems including software and hardware.
  • Provide new software and hardware testing prior to implementation.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plan.
  • Installation and testing of copper and fiber hardware.
  • Manage hardware/software/warranty including but not limited to Dell PowerEdge servers, VRTX blade servers, workstations and thin clients.
  • Manage Windows Operating Systems. (Windows 10, Server 2016 and Server 2019)
  • Manage the Process Control Domain, Active Directory, Group Policy and DNS.
  • Virtual Environment Administrator (Hyper-V, VMware ESXi and vCenter Server)
  • Experience with SANs.
  • Provide after-hours support for the mill should issues or failures occur that impact production.



  • Minimum 5 years of experience providing network design, configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting for a medium to large network environment or Internet Service Provider (ISP).
  • Strong technical project management experience in 24x7 production environments.
  • Hands on experience with Cisco, Dell and Delta V DCS networking devices and Cisco IOS.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Server Operating Systems and Microsoft Active Directory architecture.
  • Project management skills, including change control, budgeting, contract development and management, and scheduling.
  • Strong research, technical writing, analytical and communication skills, including ability to present concepts verbally.
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively and collaboratively as part of a team environment.


  • An Associates or bachelor’s degree in one or more of the following disciplines preferred. Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems Management, or a related discipline.
