Supt., Paper Machine IV




The Augusta Mill is searching for a Paper Machine Superintendent IV who will be responsible for the safe, environmentally sound and efficient operation of Paper Machine #3, including equipment, processes, and people. This position reports to the Paper Mill Superintendent and will have responsibility for approximately 48 hourly operations personnel and 8 salaried personnel. The salary staff comprises 2 assistants, 1 operations/maintenance coordinator, 4 shift supervisors and 1 relief supervisor. The machine operates on a 24/7/365 basis with a 12-hour/ 4 shift rotating schedule.


JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Oversight of the operation of a 1000 TPD coated and uncoated SBS board machine.
  • Key areas of responsibility include safety, environmental compliance, employee engagement, hourly and salaried team development, process productivity, efficiency and reliability of the daily operation.
  • Oversight of department financial performance to include cost management and annual budgeting, product quality, and capital planning is required.
  • Additional responsibilities will also include the direction of technical resources and process experts who support the business unit.



  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a Paper Mill production area (coated board experience preferred)
  • Clear record of safety / environmental commitment and results
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate to groups and individuals at all levels
  • Strong commitment to reliability and to the use of Manufacturing Excellence tools/systems to ensure sustainability of progress
  • Demonstrated leadership focused on accountability and results
  • Develop direct reports through meaningful one-to-one discussions
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a reliability culture where a clear partnership exists between Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance
  • Skilled in Planning and Scheduling
  • Thorough knowledge of paper equipment and systems



  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related field required



  • General schedule is day shift; M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Candidate will be responsible to taking weekend duty on a rotating basis
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.




  • Sitting or standing for extended periods up to 8-hours.

  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
  • Ability to physically move about a paper machine environment, including the ability to move up and down stairs as needed.
