MISSION / SUMMARY:

The Paper Supervisor position is responsible for supervising shift team operations in the Paper Machine department. This position provides leadership and supervision for the paper operating crews, supports the operating crews’ contribution to achieving the paper machine department objectives, and facilitates sound business decisions. The shift front line leader is accountable for the daily coordination of available mill resources to ensure continuity of paper machine operations. 

 

The primary focus of the Paper Supervisor is to support the immediate needs of the mill through supervision of the employee crews, on a rotating shift basis, to maintain a safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operation to achieve maximum quality production at minimum cost. The Paper Machine area starts at the high-density tower pumps and includes stock prep, paper machine, paper machine winder and roll handling systems.


JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Responsible for direct supervision of production crew utilizing competencies of successful first line leader (see competencies below).
  • Provide for development and implementation of training for direct reports.
  • Responsible for safe work environment, including conducting monthly safety meetings, observations and correcting unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • Encourages and motivates crew members to complete on-shift safe behavior observations.
  • Provide documentation/record keeping for training and qualifications.
  • Assigns responsibility for tasks and decisions.
  • Responsible for meeting and exceeding established production and quality goals.
  • Audit work systems to ensure consistent operation (rounds, logs, check sheets, inspection procedures, TCC’s etc.)
  • Increase crew engagement
  • Direct maintenance tasks to be completed on shift.
  • Effective communication and production planning between departments.
  • Annual outage support and routine outage support.
  • Conducting one-to-ones with direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:    

  • High School diploma or GED
  • 5 years of paper industry experience
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent, bending, stooping, squatting, as well as frequent movement throughout the facility for extended periods of time up to 12-hour
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office, hand tools or electrical equipment
  • Employee is required to wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses and hearing protecting when in the manufacturing area.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles and times of increased heat and humidity.
  • The noise level in the immediate work environment is normally quiet, however requires exposure to a noisy manufacturing environment.
