MISSION:

The SBS Supply Chain Load Planning group is a central led team responsible for supporting our three SBS mills utilizing the SAP operating model.  The Transportation Planner role has responsibility for creating shipment plans and managing delivery exceptions to ensure customer delivery requirements are met.  In this role, the planner will effectively analyze freight optimization, mode selection, and carrier selection to meet service requirements at minimum cost.  The Planner for the Augusta Mill will be based in Augusta, GA.  This position will report to the SBS Director of Supply Chain Operations and have a dual reporting relationship with the mill Finishing & Shipping Superintendent. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create executable and timely transportation plans for assigned facilities through the utilization of supply chain processes, heuristic, manual planning, and/or optimizer
  • Ensure shipments are monitored and exceptions resolved prior to failures
  • Achieve performance measures: Vehicle Weights, Cost to Serve, Best Mode, Open Door Time, Direct Loading, On Time Performance, Customer Fines, Routing Guide Adherence
  • Build and maintain relationships with customer service, supply planning, replenishment planning, carriers, facilities and Freight Strategic Sourcing to meet cost and service objectives
  • Proactively responds to internal requests utilizing knowledge of up and down stream business processes
  • Work within the Load Planning Team to understand trends, obstacles, and opportunities for improvements
  • Lead/ Participate in deliberate/continuous improvement projects
  • Identify, develop, and implement freight/cost saving initiatives
  • Travel to manufacturing facilities to improve understanding of warehouse and shipping processes
  • Understand and follow policies, procedures, and best practices established for managing transportation planning
  • Mentor and train new employees in SAP transactions, processes, and responsibilities through shadowing and on the job training
  • Provide feedback on carrier performance to motor and rail carrier managers
  • Able to gather and analyze data from SAP, PPR, and BI to identify opportunities and track performance
  • On-call coverage of nights, weekends, and holidays as needed (about 10 weeks per year)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in Business or Supply Chain Management
  • 2 years of supply chain planning experience required
  • Knowledge of mill paper machine scheduling and the impact that these schedules have on shipment planning
  • Demonstrates understanding of SAP and is able to effectively navigate between APO and R/3 transactions
  • Demonstrates understanding of end to end supply chain operating model processes
  • Understands and can utilize basic ME tools such as A3s, Fishbone, RACI, Brainstorming, etc
  • Able to multi-task across several tasks and follows through appropriately to completion
  • Experience with PPR OMEGA preferred
  • Ability to achieve results in a team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, handling multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to quickly learn new business processes and technology
