Title:  Production Supervisor

The primary responsibility of the Production Supervisor is to work directly with and supervise a production workforce of 20 to 30 employees per shift.  This person will have responsibility for the day to day management for all aspects of the production floor, with Safety as a top priority, assuring that work is produced in accordance with operating targets developed according to machine and staffing capabilities. He or she ensures compliance with established customer quality and production standards. They understand and align plant operations & production with the Sales Support group as he/she executes their role in the overall order fulfillment process to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

Duties:

  • Manage and maintain a safe working environment
  • Ongoing labor relations & continuous effort to maintain excellent culture and working environment
  • Provide daily direction for all direct reports to achieve plant and departmental goals
  • Quality checks and related decisions during the Sheeting, Printing, Cutting, and Finishing process
  • Enforcement of all company policies and procedures
  • Participate in and lead Lean Six Sigma events. Responsible for understanding and adhering to all GMP, safety, food safety, SQF, HACCP and food defense procedures (training will be provided)
  • Verify production targets are being met, speeds are maximized, waste is control, downtime is minimized, and monitor rule compliance (cell phones, headsets, shirts tucked in, PPE) a minimum of every two (2) hours
  • When production or make ready goals are not met, resolve the issue, coach/mentor employee to correct behavior.  Send an e-mail to appropriate Department Manager(s) of any issues
  • If a maintenance issue or quality issue occurs, make a decision on production to keep the plant running by moving production to a different machine or change the schedule appropriately (on 2nd/3rdshift)
  • If a machine is down for 2 hours (on 2nd/3rdshift), contact Maintenance and Department Manager
  • If a machine is down for 4 hours, shed labor and manage costs due to the downtime
  • When there is a quality issue:  isolate the product, ensure it is appropriately tagged/identified, notify appropriate Manager of employees involved, amount of defects, reason for defects, and corrective action plan.  Coach/mentor employee(s) to correct behavior.  If quality issue is excessive due to negligence, or failure to follow proper procedure, start disciplinary action.
  • Handle all metal shavings/glass break issues by isolating product, initiating a sort if necessary, based on customer ship dates.  Use appropriate forms and communicate to appropriate Department Manager, CI Manager, and others as needed
  • Enforce safety rules and notify appropriate Department Manager and HR Manager of violations
  • Initiate safety incident investigations, including root cause.  At a minimum, initiate a plan to prevent recurrence of immediate cause.  After providing medical treatment (if required), collect written witness statement(s), photos, evaluate surveillance video, etc.
  • Check Daily Management/5S boards and PIV inspections to ensure they are completed by end of each shift.  Remind employees to complete them
  • When quality check is missed, work with employees and issue appropriate coaching when there is a trend of not completing paperwork, or repeat errors
  • If an internal mix occurs, investigate the mix, then follow-up with the appropriate Department Manager on findings.  Work together on corrective action plan
  • Spend time on the floor between shifts to effectively communicate any safety/quality/production/maintenance issues to the associates
  • Carry the radio and Supervisor cell phone so that associates are able to reach the Supervisor at all times on-duty
  • Monitor employee breaks and control via coaching.  Ensure shifts start on-time
  • Monitor SAP schedule versus actual and hold employees accountable to following the schedule
  • Monitor Peak to ensure all employees are on correct reporting date and shift
  • Perform time clock edits and approval
  • Manage employee call-off's for production employees
  • Ensure ADP EZ Labor (Payroll) and employee validations are completed prior to end of each shift
  • Verify that all production hours are accurate for each department
  • Manage labor on a situational basis, including appropriate Department Manager and scheduler
  • Manage employee conflicts as situations warrant.  Perform investigations, obtain written statement(s), review surveillance footage to verify claims
  • Issue all discipline for attendance, below suspension level
  • Complete end of shift report and performance tracker 
  • Any other reasonable request from management
  • Participate in and lead Lean Six Sigma events. Responsible for understanding and adhering to all GMP, safety, food safety, SQF, HACCP and food defense procedures (training will be provided)
  • Any other reasonable request from management

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • 3 - 5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing.
  • Printing / Finishing background strongly preferred.
  • Supervisory experience in an organized environment.
  • Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement implementation experience.
  • Compensatory closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Internet.
  • Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma certification a plus.

Essential Job Functions:

  • 40-hour work week with occasional overtime 
  • Mon – Fri occasional weekends and/or off shift 12hr rotations
  • 5% Travel 
  • {Physical demands (bending, sitting, lifting, driving, being able to concentrate)} 
  • {List out bending/lifting/standing frequencies} 
  • Must be able to lift no more than 35 pounds as needed
  • PPE required, hairnet, vest, earplugs and safety shoes (required on the manufacturing floor) 

Work Conditions:

Office / Manufacturing environment, temperature depending on season, ear plugs required on production floor due to noise levels. 


Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • 3 - 5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing.
  • Printing / Finishing background strongly preferred.
  • Supervisory experience in an organized environment.
  • Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement implementation experience.
  • Compensatory closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Internet.
