Title:  Safety & Environmental Manager

Highly visible position, reporting to Plant Manager, responsible for day-to-day safety programs. Incumbent manages safety, health, and compliance programs, interacting with all levels and aspects of the organization.  Promotes use of Lean Sigma processes to drive operational improvements and seeks to establish safe, highly involved, productive and world-class work environment.

  • Provide overall leadership, guidance and direction regarding safety and compliance.
  • Develop and implement safety and health programs and procedures to ensure total compliance with all current local, state and federal laws/regulations and in support of Graphic Packaging International’s safety and health guidelines.
  • Oversee the processes and procedures necessary to obtain proper operating permits and ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Reviews all safety manual sections annually for compliance with current OSHA regulations.
  • Oversee the activities of the Company’s Safety Committee in assuring continued process safety, employee safety, and industrial hygiene as well as fire protection and emergency response procedures.
  • Supervise compliance activities including air and water permitting, waste handling and disposal, as well as regulatory recordkeeping.
  • Develop, coordinate, implement and track employee training programs in safety and plant security and in support of written programs. This includes training of outside contractors and other vendors regarding our plant safety standards.
  • Handle OSHA site reviews, permit requests as well as provide support for incident investigations, accident reporting and return to work programs.
  • Manage compliance to existing processes/procedures within the manufacturing operation. Responsible for understanding and adhering to all GMP, safety, food safety, SQF, HACCP and food defense procedures (training will be provided)
  • Performs safety audits.
  • Participates in daily management meetings.
  • Responsible for managing the Hazard Mitigation program. Functions include identifying potential employee hazards, capturing those hazards in a formal tracking database, coaching/training other members of management to capture and enter those hazards as well.
  • Any other reasonable request from management

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred
  • 5 years of progressive safety and environmental programs.
  • Experience in managing safety and environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Supervisory experience in an organized environment.
  • Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement implementation experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Employee/Labor Relations (organized workforce experience desired).
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills with emphasis on Word & Excel (Access & Visio experience a plus).

LEAN manufacturing training desired.
