Position Title: Plate Maker                  

Location: Chicago, IL                

This job posting is for a Plate Maker with a starting pay of $23.82 per hour plus shift differential and progressive pay increases. JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.

  • Work within and adhere to GPI’s core values of Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships and Teamwork.
  • Responsible for preparing printing plates according to production schedule.
  • Responsible to inspect plates for damage/deterioration, update FO# sequence.
  • Maintains inventory of new films and vinyls.
  • Restocking plates and supplies as needed.
  • Responsible to manage system, workflow keep up with production schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Mac OSX operating system knowledge required, must be proficient moving files, creating folders and working in a PC server environment.
  • Esko Nexus software knowledge is a bonus, will need to become proficient running workflows and managing files.
  • Esko Powerlayout knowledge is a bonus, will need to become proficient using software to create & edit layouts.
  • A strong background in packaging production is recommended and the ability to troubleshoot files.
  • Use of Machines, Tools, Equipment, Computers, Software:
    • Mac OSX, Esko Nexus, Esko Power layout ; strong math skills and ability to read a ruler to 1/64”. Must have basic computer knowledge.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and understand basic English language.
  • Must be flexible: Able to work overtime, other shifts, and Saturdays/Sundays.


  • Schedules are up to 8 or 12-hour shifts.  However, employees must have the ability to work alternate schedules and overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime.


  • Sitting or standing, depending on changing job assignment, for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Physical and visual activities that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
    • Bending over table to inspect plates, requires lifting 5 lbs. plates and standing for 2-3 hours at a time.
    • Person must have visual activity at short distances in order to examine imaged plates accurately to detect errors.
  • Routine Lifting up to 30-40 lbs.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 60 lbs.
  • Must be able to distinguish color.
  • Use of reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment.
  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature.
