JOB SUMMARY:   The Packer assures by visual inspection that all containers and lids are being manufactured and packaged according to GPI quality standards and guidelines in a safe and efficient manner.  Additionally, the Packer will be responsible for setting aside product that has irregularities and/or sticking that does not meet company quality standards.  

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

 

  • Work within and adhere to GPI’s core values of Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships and Teamwork. 
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area. 
  • Examine products or work to verify conformance to specifications. 
  • Load or unload containers into machinery. 
  • Load, unload or stack containers materials or products. 
  • Set aside product that is below quality standards. 
  • Work closely with Leads and alert Supervisor of any quality issues or reject conditions. 
  • Watch molds for irregularities or sticking. 
  • Timely response to quality issues is key to this position. 
  • Stack and pack product per instructions that vary with different customers and orders. 
  • Prepare proper product identification and/or packaging labels. 
  • When the machine experiences an interruption in production, the packer/handler will take this available time to clean up oil, sweep, mop, make boxes or other tasks that may be assigned by the team leader or supervisor.
  • Follow all safety rules, regulations and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:

  • Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Good hand -eye coordination is essential.

 

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Schedules are up to 8 or 12-hour shifts on alternate days with rotating weekends off.  However, employees must have the ability to work alternate schedules and overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Some Departments/Jobs may run a M-F 8-hour Shift Schedule.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sitting or standing, depending on changing job assignment, for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Routine Lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 100 lbs.
  • Push/pull pallet jack with up to 1500lb. load.
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment.
  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature.
