MISSION / SUMMARY: The Operator Assistant assists the Operator with setting up and operating machines and related peripheral / supporting equipment for the purpose of manufacturing cartons. They understand and align business operations and, in their department, as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial, and operational objectives.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.

  • Stacks carton blanks in feed mechanism or onto skids.
  • Observation to detect machine malfunctions.
  • Inspects completed work to detect defects and verify conformance to work order specifications and adjust machinery as necessary to correct variations.
  • Packs finished product (kick) into corrugate boxes or onto skids as per customer requirements.
  • Palletizes finished product.
  • Prints labels.
  • Keeps daily time and materials usage reports and records information in SAP when requested by Operator.
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance under direction of Operator.
  • Disassembles machines to maintain, repair, or replace broken or worn parts, using hand tools.
  • Perform housekeeping duties.
  • Under direction of Operator installs and adjusts guide assemblies, according to box blank dimensions and work order specifications, using hand tools.
  • Ensures that Health & Safety and SQF standards are maintained.
  • Shares an obligation to protect and strengthen Graphic Packaging International’s good reputation in our relationships with customers, employees, suppliers, competitors, investors, and governmental agencies, and to act consistently with our core values: Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:

  • Folding carton experience strongly preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, data entry
  • Visual Color Discrimination, the ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of colors.

 

 EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

 

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedules are an 8hr 3 shift operation and/or 12-hour continental shifts with rotating weekends off, however, employees must be willing to work alternate schedules or overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Occasional walking, bending, and turning.
  • Frequently reaching and twisting
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment.
  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature.
