The HSE Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing policies and practices to identify/mitigate hazardous conditions within the workplace. Identifying potential workplace hazards, unsafe equipment, work practices, and working conditions. Investigating accidents and liaising with engineers, management, and health and safety regulatory authorities to identify causes of accidents and prevent their recurrence. Providing advice and training on safety protocols and conducting audits to ensure
compliance with organization and government standards related to employee health and safety. You will also be responsible for maintaining and analyzing records of workplace injuries, illness and absences to identify areas of concern and provide information required by regulatory agencies.
Key Responsibilities and Job Functions:
- Responsible for the monitoring and achievement of operational and/or financial results for their area of responsibility.
- Responsible for people management actions such as hiring, terminating, rewarding, training, and developing employees.
- Progression within the levels reflects increase in scope and responsibilities as well as growth in business and industry experience, process and people leadership capabilities, and broad technical expertise.
- Manages experienced professionals and/or supervisors who exercise latitude and independence in their assignments.
- First Friday managers meeting of the month, Supply MDC updates for the Safety Database and the Safety Conversations
- Adapt departmental plans and priorities to meet short-term challenges.
- Works on issues of diverse scope; analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of concepts, theories, and principles in own discipline and a basic knowledge of other disciplines.
- Solves problems following operational policies; understand the broader impact across the department.
- Acts as advisor to subordinate(s) to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems.
- Applies understanding of the business and how area of responsibility integrates with other areas to achieve department objectives.
- Interprets and administers policies, processes, and procedures that may affect sections and subordinate work units.
- Develops and administers schedules, performance requirements; may have budget
responsibilities. - Provides solutions to complex HSE and security issues serving as the HSE leader
- Designs, develops, implements programs and oversees the aspects of the Packaging Machinery Division Manufacturing Facility’s First Responders, OSHA Audiometric and Respirator fit testing, Process Safety Management, and industrial hygiene.
- Investigates accidents, develops corrective and preventive actions, promotes HSE-conscious work performance.
- Determines HSE training requirements and schedule and provides or coordinates training for employees applicable to their work processes.
- Coordinates appropriate, timely and cost-effective delivery of health care related to disability, urgent and emergency care, work limitations, transitional return to work plans, accommodations and part-time work for workers compensation and non-workers compensation for illness and injury
- Drives compliance maturity with environmental regulations such as Clean Air Act (including Title V Air Program), Clean Water Act (including NPDES and Storm Water Programs), RCRA, TSCA, SARA, etc.
- Develop and provide training on key environmental issues, permitting and environmental requirements, and compliance.
- Develop and implement environmental guidelines and best practices.
- Manage regulatory reporting requirements, permitting processes, and response to regulatory activities, inspections, and citations.
- Investigate environmental incidents and develop recommendations to prevent future incidents.
- Maintain up-to-date, comprehensive knowledge of federal/state/local environmental laws, EPA regulations, and corporate policies.
- Meet and maintain all divisional Quality Process Management objectives as established by GPI.
- Serve as the facility contact for customer complaints and customer compliance audits. Maintain reporting systems for internal and external complaints within SAP in accordance with GPI requirements.
- Communicate plant quality expectations and monitor performance relative to the objectives in a timely and effective manner.
Background:
- Bachelor’s degree or related work experience required in lieu of degree.
- 6 + years in HSE roles within manufacturing or industrial environments.
- Experience with regulatory compliance and safety program implementation.
- Exposure to cross-functional collaboration and HSE system implementation.
- HSE Management software (e.g., Riskonnect, ISN)
- Experience working with OSHA, EPA, state, and local HSE regulations; maintain records such as OSHA 300 logs, monthly environmental reports, and compliance calendars; and manage reporting tools like Riskonnect.
Preferred
- Certifications (preferred): NEBOSH, CIH, CSP, OSHA 30-hour, ISO 14001, or Certified Safety Professional credentials.
- Paper manufacturing experience preferred.

Pay Range: $94,875.00 - $126,500.00
