POSITION SCOPE: The HS&E Specialist is responsible for partnering with facility management to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. This position will oversee Health, Safety & Environmental activities for the Packaging Machinery division; Crosby, MN, Sandy Springs, GA and virtual employees.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design safety programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent workplace injury.
  • Ensure personnel are trained as needed, including developing, documenting, and conducting training.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety and environmental activities.
  • Implement and manage Corporate directed HS&E programs/initiatives.
  • Ensure facilities are compliant with OSHA, MPCA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain reports such as OSHA 300 log, TRI, hazardous waste, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan, and Tier II reports.
  • Investigate accidents and near misses to determine root cause and ensure corrective action.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Safety Committees and facilitate committee projects.
  • Collaborate with operations management in regard to safety requirements/initiatives.
  • Point-person for plant emergencies, including weather, accidents, medical emergencies, and other potential incidents.
  • Manage PPE inventory and applications.
  • Oversee loss prevention and security measures.
  • Under the direction of the Human Resources Manager, provide administration of worker compensation claims, interfaces with insurer, medical provider and employee in case management and return to work programs.
  • Provide other support to HR as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE

  • Post-secondary or higher degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial technology or other related field
  • Prior experience in Safety or EHS role; manufacturing environment preferred
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA, EPA regulations
  • Excellent computer skills; proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Previous training experience is desirable
  • Strong written and oral communications, coaching skills and the ability to interact effectively both one-on-one and in a group
