 Graphic Packaging International, Inc., headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is a leading provider of packaging solutions for a wide variety of products to food, beverage and other consumer products companies.  The Company is one of the largest producers of folding cartons and holds a leading market position in coated-unbleached Kraft board and coated-recycled board. One of its facilities is currently seeking a Health, Safety, and Environmental Intern.  The position is located at the Fort Smith, Arkansas plant, which is part of the Consumer Products Division producing sheet fed cartons.

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Health, Safety, and Environmental Intern will assist the Health, Safety, and Environmental Specialist to coordinates the implementation of plant safety and health programs in support of corporate-wide safety and health guidelines and standards in order to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in identifying and appraising conditions which could produce safety incidents and financial losses.
  • Assists with safety incident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs (such as JSOPs and DuPont STOP Training) for incorporation into operational policies of organization.
  • Assists in coordination of on the job safety and skilled training.
  • Track employee safety/health training in support of written programs.
  • Involved in responsibilities/actions related to Prerequisite and Food Safety Programs.
  • Follow Plant rules, Hygiene, & Allergens procedures related to production of Safe Quality Foods.
  • Report to person of authority to record any potentially unsafe conditions which may result in unsafe foods or noncompliance to SQF related procedures.
  • Participate in SQF Root Cause and Corrective Actions (from customer complaints, SQF audits, validation, and verification activities) as required.
  • Reporting of any customer complaints to persons responsible to enter into GPI’s Customer Complaint system for root cause analysis and appropriate corrective action taken.

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Preferably a Jr or Sr level college student.
  • Preferably problem solving skills and project management skills.
  • Computer Skills: SAP, MS Office, and database programs.
