Finishing Department Manager

 

Graphic Packaging International, Inc., headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is a leading provider of packaging solutions for a wide variety of products to food, beverage and other consumer products companies.  The Company is one of the largest producers of folding cartons and holds a leading market position in coated-unbleached Kraft board and coated-recycled board.  One of its facilities is currently seeking an experienced Finishing Manager for the Fort Smith, AR plant that is part of the Consumer Products Division

 

The Finishing Department Manager must exercises judgment where appropriate in managing and ensuring the efficient operation of the Finishing Department.  The Finishing Manger is responsible for quality, equipment condition, safety, the efficient operation of the gluers, and production scheduling and planning of product to be produced in the Finishing Department.

 

Job Functions

  1. Responsible for managing foremen and/or shift leaders and has ultimate responsibility for all hourly Finishing Department employees.  Responsibilities include planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
  2. Oversees the daily operation of Gluers and ensures that production efficiencies and overall productivity meets or exceeds established standards.  Responsible for solving production problems.
  3. Responsible for raw material purchases for the Finishing Department.
  4. Has overall responsibility for maintenance of equipment and coordinates maintenance requirements to minimize operational impact.
  5. Assures the department maintains quality standards and coordinates with the CI Department to ensure adherence to customer quality standards.
  6. Works to maintain a safe work environment and develops and implements safety procedures to aid in achieving departmental safety goals.
  7. Directly involved in responsibilities and actions related to Prerequisite and Food Safety Programs.
  8. Responsible for production scheduling and planning of product to be produced in Finishing.  Strives to achieve minimum waste of product to meet profit goals.
  9. Follow all Plant rules, Processes, Hygiene, and Allergens procedures, related to production of Safe Quality Foods.

 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Quality, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 3-5 years related experience or equivalent or combination of education and experience.
  • Quality experience preferred including:
  • Lean, Six Sigma, 5S
  • Capital Improvement Projects
  • Manufacturing
  • Proficient with MicroSoft Office, Outlook ,and internet research skills.
  • Experience with SAP preferred.
  • Proven track record of identifying opportunities and the ability to recommend and implement improvements.
  • Project Management.
  • Ability to successfully manage and meet goals of a sizable department.
  • Leader with exceptional communication skills, good organization, good people skills, and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
