Develops and administers plant safety and environmental programs and policies.  Assures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to worker safety and environmental protection.

  • Manages the facility’s safety program to prevent injury through involvement of management group, employee training, communication of goals, procedure/policy development.
  • Manages the facility’s environmental programs of storm water pollution prevention, SARA, SPCC, RCRA, CERCLA reporting, hazardous waste and waste minimization program, wastewater permit.
  • Development and maintenance of Title V operating permit (permitting changes, visible emissions evaluation, monitoring emissions, record keeping, and semi-annual reporting).
  • Manages property insurance loss activities and programs required by factory mutual (loss prevention fire suppression systems, FM inspection recommendations).
  • Remains informed in changes to regulatory issues to assure continued compliance (corporate does not provide regulatory oversight).
  • Manages activities for Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Certification (develops procedures, employee training, coordinates other activities.).
  • Liaison between Graphic Packaging and personnel at regulatory agencies (city, state and Federal Air Pollution Control, Division of Solid Waste Management, etc.).
  • Manages facility Workers Compensation program.
  • Responsible for compliance with all facility food safety, food defense, and quality policies and procedures including product safety (GMPs)/Sanitation policies and procedures. Employee must continually work to promote the orderliness and cleanliness of their work area in support of SQF/5S and other company standards.
  • Must be supportive of GPI’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values (Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork).
  • Must be supportive and involved in GPI efforts for LEAN, 5S, Six Sigma and other Continuous Improvement programs and processes.
  • Quality Mode Owner for Functional Control.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Strives to clearly understand customer requirements and delivers results to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Ability and responsibility to stop any process that is not meeting food safety requirements.

Required Skills

  • Five years’ experience in managing safety and environmental programs dealing with air emission and hazardous waste issues.
  • Working knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and agencies
  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Self-directing – organized
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, but requires some exposure to a noisy manufacturing environment.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.
