Chemical Process Engineer II

 

MISSION / SUMMARY:

 

The Chemical Process Engineer provides technical support and leadership to the operating departments, develops and implements work systems and best practices to improve safety, quality, productivity and cost reduction, provides day-to-day process engineering support, performs engineering work in the development of process improvement projects, plans and executes process trials involving new chemicals, chemical processes or equipment and performs chemical engineering work in the analysis, planning and control of the manufacturing process to produce pulp and paper products.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.

  • Responsible for all work within the scope of assigned projects regarding plant equipment and chemical manufacturing processes and ensures that objectives are met and within budget.
  • Under close supervisor, assists in the design of the plant equipment and processes for the production of pulp and paper products.
  • Assists in the designs and plans routine layouts and may oversee personnel engaged in operating chemical processes on a commercial scale.
  • May recommend effective arrangement of condensers, absorption, and evaporation towers, etc.
  • May conduct studies and coordinate effluent treatment projects, and air quality studies.

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Previous on-site working experience, in an integrated Pulp and Paper mill.

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

 

  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering or related or science field.
  • 1 years of demonstrated practical/technical experience
  • Demonstrated ability to engage a work force
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

 

  • General schedule is a 8 -hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

  • Frequent, bending, stooping, squatting, as well as frequent movement throughout the facility for extended periods of time up to 10-hour
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office, hand tools or electrical equipment
  • Employee is required to wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses and hearing protecting when in the manufacturing area.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles and times of increased heat and humidity.
  • The noise level in the immediate work environment is normally quiet, however requires exposure to a noisy manufacturing environment.
