SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing Manager is responsible for the safety, employee engagement, productivity, quality, and customer service associated with multiple manufacturing and support functions within the manufacturing facility. He/she is responsible for overall planning, assigning, and directing the work of a production management team responsible for paper manufacturing operations. He/she is responsible for ensuring his/her teams remains focused on key performance indicators (Safety, Quality, and Productivity), optimizing production equipment to produce a product that meets or exceeds customer expectations. He/she is responsible for understanding and aligning business operations and manufacturing operations as he/she executes his/her role in alignment with GPI business, cultural, financial, and operational objectives.

Actively leads and participates in the plant safety, housekeeping, and continuous improvement efforts.

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Managerial responsibility for technical direction, administrative management, and leadership in the Paper Machine area.
  • Assisting Operations personnel in resolving manufacturing and maintenance problems to ensure safe operations and prevent operational delays and downtime while minimizing costs.
  • Work on teams to help develop and manage capital and maintenance projects.
  • Perform paper production troubleshooting in all areas of manufacturing.
  • Examine procedures and recommends changes to improve quality and operating efficiency, and to maximize productivity.  Plans and executes trials to achieve desired results.
  • Participate in various team activities (Safety, Lean-sigma, etc.), providing leadership to keep teams goals and results consistent with company direction.
  • Provide coverage for Assistant Superintendent/Supervisor vacancies (absences, vacations, training, etc.) on an as needed basis.
  • Provide weekend coverage in production department rotation
  • Coaches and develops training plans for direct reports and technicians.
  • Supports mill and department goals in safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost, productivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technical discipline; or equivalent experience
  • Ten (10) years previous experience with paper making operations.
  • Five (5) years’ experience as paper machine supervisor.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • SAP experience a plus.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is an M-F assignment, with rotating weekend/night call coverage. Employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. Schedule includes weekend rotation coverage.
  • Up to 25% travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods 8+-hours
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Wear PPE when required:  Hard Hat, safety glasses, hearing protection etc.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
  • Confined space entry of equipment and vessels during outages.
  • Walking down all process areas and equipment.

Salary Range:

  • Min: $112,005
  • Mid: $149,340
  • Max: $186,675
