MISSION / SUMMARY:

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and supervision of the Shipping crew operations as needed to cover for crew supervisors on vacation or temporarily assigned to other duties. The Shipping Supervisor is also responsible for assisting the Finishing and Shipping Superintendent in the day-to-day Operations of the Department and the planning and coordination of maintenance and outage activities within the department.

 

The primary focus of this position is to support the immediate needs of the mill through the supervision of the crews in the Shipping area, as needed to cover for manager vacancies, to maintain a safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operation to achieve maximum quality production at minimum cost. The secondary focus of this role is to proactively support the Finishing and Shipping Superintendent in the coordination of maintenance and outage actives, and other special projects as assigned, to support continuous improvement within the area. Areas of responsibility include all roll handling equipment, wrapping and finishing operations, warehousing, inventory management, loading / shipping (rail and truck) and training / certification of Operators.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS:  Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Responsible for safe work environment, including conducting safety meetings and training, observations and correcting unsafe behaviors and conditions, and proactively supporting department and facility leadership in the continuous improvement of safety systems.
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of the crews in the department.
  • Provide support to the Finishing and Shipping Superintendent in the planning, coordination, and execution on maintenance and reliability improvement efforts in the Finishing and Shipping area.
  • Provide annual and routine outage support.
  • Drive area continuous improvements initiatives from conception through implementation, to improve area efficiency, reduce costs, and improve reliability.
  • Provide proactive support to foster and improve operator engagement and morale within the department.
  • Provide backup coverage, for the Finishing and Shipping Superintendent.
  • Support employee development by assisting in training, certification, hiring, and employee evaluations / one-on-ones for direct reports.
  • Effective communication with department and facility leadership, operators, and facility liaisons.
  • Responsible for meeting exceeding department / facility production and quality goals.
  • Audit work systems to ensure consistent operation (rounds, logs, check sheets, inspection procedures, TCCs, etc.)


BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous SAP experience
  • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Logistics/shipping experience preferred
  • 5 yrs. of experience in paper manufacturing, warehouse operations, converting, logistics, or related field. Experience in maintenance and /or converting equipment operation is preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • BA or BS in Business Management, Engineering or related field of study is preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in paper manufacturing or converting field may be considered as a substitute for degree.

 

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is M-F assignment; however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.
  • Weekend and evening on call responsibilities based on rotation.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sitting or standing, depending on changing job assignment, for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Routine Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Standing and sitting for extended periods and awkward or repetitive movements at times
