Position Mission/Summary 

The New Product Development Project Leader is responsible for the transition of new products from technical sample structures to commercial products produced in the specialty facilities. They provide the key coordinating function in transfer of technology from the lab to the manufacturing floor in both new products and new or improved processes. Ongoing maintenance of specifications is required.

Position Responsibilities: 

  1. Develops and leads transfer of new products from technical prototypes to commercial production across the specialty plants with a primary focus on Lawrenceburg and Tuscaloosa. Additional support responsibilities for Fort Smith, Solon, Wausau and others as needed.
  2. Develops and leads transfer of new or modified processes from Technical plant through successful commercial production.
  3. Writes, publishes and maintains new specifications to formalize new product structure and production process. Updates specifications as necessary to document actual process.
  4. Organizes and facilitates frequent meetings as needed to maintain communication among R & D, sales, manufacturing, QC, scheduling, outside vendors and others important to maintain new product or process launch timelines.
  5. Resolves process issues by proposing and implementing designed testing (D.O.E.). Communicates findings and recommendations to production for action.
  6. Attends line trials and customer interface meetings to support sales and production. Performs predictive analysis (FMEA) to assure success of trials.
  7. Develops and reports line test objectives and results to expected gain and budget.
  8. Responsible for compliance with all facility food safety, food defense, and quality policies and procedures including product safety (GMPs)/Sanitation policies and procedures. Employee must continually work to promote the orderliness and cleanliness of their work area in support of SQF/5’s and other company standards.
  9. Must be supportive of GPI’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values (Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork).
  10. Must be supportive and involved in GPI efforts for LEAN, 5’s, Six Sigma and other Continuous Improvement programs and processes.
  11. Assists in all other functions of the Business Development Group as assigned.
  12. Strives to clearly understand customer requirements and delivers results to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  13. Ability and responsibility to stop any process that is not meeting food safety requirements.
  14. Ability and responsibility to stop any process that is not meeting customer quality requirements. 

Position Requirements:

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent working knowledge with at least five years of experience.
  • Specialized skills preferred are Science Degree, BS, computer skills, problem-solving skills, and facilitation skills.
  • This function requires good oral and written communication, and packaging materials and processes. Frequent travel and must be willing to travel in 24 hours’ notice. Travel up to one-week duration is possible.
  • Formal Six Sigma training preferred.
  • Performs tasks in general manufacturing areas
  • Performs some tasks outdoors (audits, maintenance)
  • Travel Required to include domestic and international. Must be willing to travel on short notice. Estimated travel requirement is 30%.
