Title:  R&D Technical Services Specialist

The lead Specialist, Technical Services oversees the daily workflow of the pilot line technicians, answers any technical questions from other technicians and supports the trial work process. The lead specialist will need to be available to travel as needed to other GPI facilities or customer sites as a subject matter expert. The lead also provides insight to the manager regarding equipment maintenance and safety policies/precautions. The lead is responsible for producing highly accurate machine and lab trial request for new products or processes, administration of documentation of requests and process specifications and maintenance of all pilot line equipment.

Required Skills

  • Complies with all company and department safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Reviews all written requests for accuracy prior to commencing manufacturing and lab work. Provides direction when needed to the pilot line technicians.
  • Expertly operates all pilot line equipment including but not limited to extrusion laminator/coater, PrintCo printing press, Geometric Line, all cutting equipment, straight line gluer, forklift, clamp truck, man lift and stretch wrapper.
  • Accurately documents all trial requests and lab results. Ensure all requests are closed with all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Identify any machine maintenance or safety items and bring those items to the attention of the manager for implementation.
  • Work with vendors, project leaders and customers during on-site trials. Travel as needed to GPI facilities and customer sites as a subject matter expert.
  • Oversee the process control over inventory items.

Required Experience

  • Qualified candidates will have at a minimum a high school diploma or equivalent with 15 years hands on converting experience.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have in-depth technical understanding of packaging, printing, and related fields.
  • Strong computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills to include written and verbal.
  • Must demonstrate experience working under pressure and tight deadlines.

Physical Requirements

  • Must have excellent eye/hand coordination.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively on and around large manufacturing equipment and in a chemical environment.
