MISSION / SUMMARY:

Purchase Fiber for the Division’s use in such a manner that the maximum value will be obtained for the money expended.  Purchases will be made from qualified/approved vendors whose reputations, financial positions and price structures are sufficiently adequate for consideration as logical sources of supply.  Works directly with fiber suppliers, negotiating contracts, managing day-to-day shipments of roundwood, chips and fuel wood.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Effective sourcing of fiber for the company’s pulp production and biomass energy needs.
  • Perform Data analysis projects assigned by Wood Procurement Manager.
  • Assist in planning, managing and reporting fiber flows, certification, quality, costs, and inventories.
  • See that purchasing and related functions are carried out in accordance with Division/Company policies, procedures, internal audit controls as well as legal and ethical requirements.
  • Support Corporate Supply Chain initiatives
  • Maintain SAP info records and source list.
  • Establish and maintain contacts by telephone, mail and personal interviews with Fiber suppliers and proactively assure impartial treatment of all vendors.
  • Protect the Division from undesirable legal actions deriving from buyer/supplier relations by recognizing legal implication in any situation and consult with legal counsel as needed.  Enforce Legal Department’s policy directives.
  • Responsible for month-end inventory calculations and entering process orders for month-end.
  • Monitor vendor insurance coverage
  • Daily monitoring of Statements in AlData for price and quantity discrepancies.
  • Maintain procedures documenting wood procurement system tasks.
  • Track and file insurance certificates, wood purchase contracts, and wood settlements.
  • Assist Wood Procurement Superintendent as directed and perform responsibilities in their absence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Background in purchasing, supply chain, and customer service.
  • Working knowledge of SAP and AlData systems.
  • Good verbal/written communication skills
  • Multitask skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines on a continuous basis
  • Leadership skills and ability to lead in a fast-paced environment.

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forest Resources or Business with 2 to 4 years of experience in manufacturing purchasing, planning or materials management required. 
  • Master’s degree in business or forestry resources preferred.

 

SKILLS:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate up and down the organization
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Able to motivate people to perform at higher level.
  • Proficient with SAP, AlData, Word, Excel, and other software applications as required for the business.

 

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
