 MISSION / SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Superintendent has 5 direct reports (Supts/Mgrs.) and must collaborate with operations to manage all maintenance functions including implementing maintenance reliability core processes, planning and execution, and emergency repairs. The ideal candidate must possess the ability to manage by key performance indicators, understand and align business operations and maintenance as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

 JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Provide leadership to all aspects of the operation
  • Able to establish a high level of standards within the department
  • Drive safety to Zero injuries and support mill transition to safety focused culture.
  • Develop the leadership capability within the organization.
  • Develop long-term strategies aimed at equipment reliability improvements.
  • Develop and execute the strategic vision of a mill-wide reliability department.
  • Work as a team with entire operational team providing support from team as needed to support the mill operation demands.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Establish and direct maintenance operations in a safe and orderly manner providing quality services according to job schedules and customer specifications.
  • Develop, plan, and administer material and labor usage.
  • Establish and provide the operational expertise component of leading and managing our cultural change process, the strategic and forward-thinking capabilities in both the operational and human capital areas of the operation.
  • Develop improved methods for new capital investments, cost reduction and equipment refurbishment.
  • Administer and implement Labor relations (CBA) through consultation with the Human Resource and Mill Managers.
  • Assist in preparation of budgets and standards for cost measurement.
  • Determine training needs and administer appropriate training programs for salaried and hourly employees within maintenance and planning in order to function in the most reliable manner.
  • Develop and provide leadership with problem solving strategies that result in the successful execution of key performance objectives.

 BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Skilled in utilization of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), preferably SAP.
  • Multi-tasking skills with the ability to meet deadlines on a continuous basis.
  • Able to convey a sense of urgency and drive to perform and deliver expected results to the organization.
  • Organized approach to work and ability to deal with multiple competing priorities to make appropriate decisions.
  • 10-15 year’s maintenance supervision experience in pulp and paper.

 EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Math or Sciences from an accredited four-year college or university strongly preferred or, in lieu of degree, a minimum of 8-10 years of compensatory closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.

 SKILLS:

  • Expertise to trouble shoot technical paper machine issues.
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of conditions and technical challenges.
  • Organized approach to work and ability to deal with multiple competing priorities to make appropriate decisions.
  • Able to convey a sense of urgency and drive to perform and deliver expected results to the organization.
  • Project Management skills

 SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
  • Exposure to a mill environment requiring the ability to use ladders/stairs
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
