SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Purchasing Manager will negotiate with vendors for the purchase of all materials, supplies, equipment and services used by the Mill. This position manages approximately $350 million in purchase spending in the areas of goods and services. Strategizing to find cost effective suppliers while analyzing how to cut procurement expenses allowing the Mill to invest in people and growth. A familiarity with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures; along with, experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals is required. This position leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. This position reports to the Mill Controller and is responsible for the coordination of spending with the corporate purchasing team.
SUPERVISION:
Leads and manages 4 buyers, a stores supervisor, and a coordinator.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Forecasts and negotiates with vendors to secure beneficial terms for goods and services, negotiating the best possible price, availability, appropriateness, and supply/service guarantee.
- Interviews and confers with current and prospective suppliers to determine supply capabilities, transportation logistics inventory control and management; negotiates prices and delivery terms.
- Ensures suppliers are capable of delivering desired goods or services on time and in the correct quantities without sacrificing quality.
- Secures, analyzes, negotiates prices and terms with suppliers, and recommends suppliers with respect to cost, quality, and delivery competitiveness for assigned responsibilities.
- Establishes purchasing policies to ensure compliance on how the company solicits price quotes, number of bids to accept and which vendors are eligible for consideration.
- Responsible for the operation of the Mill storeroom and Receiving Department.
- Monitor the planning of recent schedules and inventory control parameters for the assigned products and services consistent with ERP requirements or as arranged with requisitions.
- Coordinates as appropriate quality matters and engineering changes/developments between company activities and suppliers.
- Visits prospective supplier plants and distribution sources to evaluate their capabilities.
- Manage the supply chain to include the balance between existing supplier relationships and new supplier development to prevent disruption and ensure that a competitive environment exists for strategic sourcing events.
- Create, implement and monitor local KPI’s for purchasing. Develop year-over-year cost reductions and countermeasures as appropriate.
- Follows environmental and safety regulations and acts in compliance with US laws.
- Evaluating the price, reliability, quality, goods availability, service availability and technical support of vendors.
- Complies with safety and corporate guidelines on business ethics.
- Planning and overseeing the work of buyers, storeroom supervisor and coordinator.
- Sponsor employee ownership with team to assure continuity in reaching common production goals.
- Foster employee engagement initiatives.
- Administer and implement Labor relations (CBA) through consultation with the Human Resource and Mill Managers.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of basic Cost Accounting concepts as they pertain to inventory valuation
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels of the organization.
- Adherence to ethical conduct consistent with company policies
- Able to collaborate with various departments and personnel as necessary
Pay Range: $126,300.00 - $168,400.00
