Direct the safety and environmental efforts for assigned locations.  Responsibility will be to provide direction and support to assigned locations to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements for Health, Safety, and Environmental.  Support locations in managing the initial medical treatment of injured employees, maintain medical records, creates an environment of injury prevention and overall wellness, aligning the GPI HSE expectations with the safety of the employees.  This position may be located in either New Albany, IN (near Louisville, KY), Lebanon, TN (near Nashville), Xenia, OH (near Dayton), or Lancaster, TX (near Dallas).

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.

  • Foster close working relationships to coach, mentor, lead and assist plant HSE coordinators/managers to successfully manage responsibilities at operating locations.
  • Establish and maintain close working relationships with plant leadership team along with other business unit functions operating management.
  • Strive to align efforts of plant HSE coordinators/managers to reduce duplicative efforts and promote sharing of best practices, success, and other value-added information/knowledge.
  • Maintain thorough and current understanding of health, safety and environmental regulations/requirements.  Assist operations personnel interpretation of regulations/requirements.  Stay abreast of changes to, or potential new, regulations/requirements and provide appropriate guidance to operating management personnel.
  • Actively participate in the process to develop new and/or improved tools, resources, guidance, training, and/or policy documents.
  • Maintain good working knowledge/understanding of operational and HSE processes at facilities to ensure key elements and required activities are clearly and accurately communicated, executed and documented.
  • Actively track plant performance and provide timely feedback and notifications as appropriate. Review/audit/inspect HSE policies, programs, systems, processes, procedures, and practices at operating locations.  Work aggressively with plant personnel to resolve delays, shortcomings, deviations or exceptions and elevate, when appropriate, to engage senior management when assistance is required to achieve desired results.
  • Review compliance procedures, regulatory reports, training programs, etc. and assist in improving/revising documentation as well as provide training.
  • Serve as a resource for the Central Safety and Health Committee and all sub-committees.
  • Coordinates the Plant’s behavior-based safety training and audit efforts.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the annual plant, department, and individual safety goals.
  • Maintains the OSHA log, Audiometric, and other Corporate HSE reporting requirements.
  • Manages the Plant’s Emergency Response Team and its training.
  • Initiates appropriate case management of all workers compensation cases.
  • Coordinates the purchase of all necessary HSE equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills


  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or Engineering is preferred, or greater than fifteen years of work experience in in lieu of degree may be considered.
  • Environmental Management Experience                                          



  • General schedule is an 8-hour Monday through Friday assignment; however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, or riding.



  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.

  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.

Required Experience


  • 8-10 years of safety management experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Formal Safety Leadership Training
  • Compliance base of knowledge in manufacturing plants                                          
  • Ability to train and coach performance                                             
  • High energy / can do perspective                                          
  • Potential / Desire for future roles and growth                                    
  • Proven ability to drive change                                               
  • Travel Requirements of 80% within responsible areas
  • Excellent communication skills          
  • Leadership roles and prior leadership experience                                        
  • Willing to relocate for future opportunity                                            
  • 4-year Degree or equivalent industry experience                                         
  • Experience in communications with OSHA                                      
  • Experience in working with union facilities                                        
  • Located to base in one of the Region's sites 
  • Microsoft Office knowledge required.
