Title:  Printing Press Operator

The Press Operator is responsible for the safe operation of the press while meeting the standards in quality and productivity.  The Operator serves as a leader in the department. All members of the press department are expected to work as a team to ensure standards are met in safety, quality, and productivity.

 


Required Skills

  • Responsible for setting up and maintaining the press at all times
  • Examines job order to determine quantity to be printed, stock specifications, colors and special printing instructions
  • Examines offset printing plates for visual defects and applies correcting solution to repair or informs supervisor of un-repairable plates
  • Applies packing sheet to blanket cylinders to build up blanket thickness to diameter of plate cylinder
  • Measures paper thickness and adjusts space between blanket and impression cylinders
  • Adjusts computer controls to regulate flow of ink and dampening solution to plate cylinder
  • Starts press, examines printed copy for ink density, position on paper and registration and makes computer adjustments to press throughout production run to maintain specific registration and color density
  • Makes adjustments to feeder and delivery mechanism
  • Removes and replaces worn rollers and adjusts pressure between rollers of press
  • Ensures Company Quality and Production standards are met.
  • Leads, gives directions to, trains, and monitors work of press crew
  • Ensures information is communicated between shifts
  • Performs job duties in accordance with company safety rules
  • Perform proper and required maintenance of the press
  • In depth knowledge of the mechanics and capabilities of the press
  • Ability to accurately distinguish color variation
  • Excellent color perception
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Requires experience running, troubleshooting and quality control
  • Ability to understand technical written instructions and set-up the press and carry out instructions
  • Frequent lifting, bending and turning
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Ability to talk with customers, in person, on a daily basis explaining the technical operation of the printing process and leaving the customer with a positive professional impression (First Press Checks)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Superior housekeeping skills
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently lead a team
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Required Experience

  • 2-5 years Large format Litho Press printing experience
  • High-School diploma/GED combined with further education/training in Litho printing
  • Ability to work all shifts and overtime as needed
