This position will be responsible for leading the processes regarding make-ready, operations and maintenance of the printing press, in doing so efficiently, safely and accurately.

  • Must be proficient in all 2nd Pressman duties.
  • Must remain proficient in all Press Operator duties
  • Review job jacket to ensure proper specifications
  • Ability to read and follow job specifications to determine press set-up materials needed to run the job successfully
  • Setup and adjust press
  • Troubleshoot and correct quality/machine problems
  • Direct crews to stay on task
  • Control color to proper delta E
  • Ability to use densitometer
  • Ensure necessary color or register corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality of specifications of the work
  • Ensures that product quality, production efficiencies, and scrap rates meet or exceed established standards. Actively supports and uses quality control procedures (including SAP) that are in place.
  • Operates assigned equipment in a safe and efficient manner and is responsible for shift production
  • Ability to adjusts press machine parts, such as feeder and delivery mechanisms, suction grippers, guides, feed wheels, jogging devices, tapes, and cams, using hand tools.
  • Assist in removing and replacing worn rollers and adjusting pressure between rollers of press, using hand tools.
  • Wash blankets and cleans ink and ink distributing rollers and ink fountains, using ink solvent and cleaning mechanism on press when required.
  • Perform PM and minor repairs
  • Work with Printing Manager to suggest potential improvements (productivity, process & quality)
  • Displays work habits that set example for peers
  • Notifies management/supervision of potential problems and offers solutions to same.
  • Performs other duties as required to achieve the overall goals and objectives of the Company.
  • Responsible for compliance with all facility food safety, food defense, and quality policies and procedures including product safety (GMPs)/Sanitation policies and procedures. Employee must continually work to promote the orderliness and cleanliness of their work area in support of SQF/5S and other company standards.
  • Ability and responsibility to stop any process that is not meeting safety, food safety or customer quality requirements.
  • Ensure all production paperwork and checklists are completed accurately, timely and all required information and signatures are obtained.

Required Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.

Minimum of 5-7 years in Large Format Sheet-fed Printing. Heidelberg and/or Mitsubishi experience is a plus.

Folding Carton or Commercial Printing experience is required.
