Provide general supervision and leadership to improve the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of plant’s assets.  Develop capital budgets to ensure the continued operations of the facility.   Responsibilities include engineering support for manufacturing and maintenance.  Additionally, responsible for coordination and implementation of safety and industrial hygiene programs, provides accurate information and reports to government agencies, ensures plant’s compliance with environmental regulations, leads technical investigations related to Health, Safety & Environmental impact issues and provides timely and cost-effective resolution. The Process Engineer/HSE Manager will cover SQF responsibilities in the absence of the CI Manager.


  • Implement engineering changes to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of plant equipment.
  • Implement engineering changes to ensure compliance with all regulations regarding environmental matters.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to all departments as it relates to engineering for the facility, support and production equipment as well as safety.
  • Maintain work order system to ensure that schedule PMs are completed on time and daily work is processed.
  • Maintain technical documentation and software.
  • Manage and coordinate plant projects, contractor maintenance, and skill trades training programs.
  • Interact with equipment vendors and production department personnel.
  • Partner with mechanical and electrical group leaders to accomplish process improvement maintenance activities.
  • Provide guidance to all employees in department regarding quality, safety, maintenance and safe operating procedures.
  • Plan new equipment installation and plant layout revisions.
  • Assures compliance with Health Safety & Environmental laws dealing with ergonomics, toxicology, waste, water and air by investigating new regulations and working with consultants, attorneys and other legislative and regulatory groups on legal and regulatory interpretations.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements safety programs and training for the well being of employees and the protection of GPI.

Required Skills

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or experience in a related field with 8-10 years of combined education/experience managing a plant maintenance operation will be considered.
  • Experience must be in a manufacturing or folding carton environment.
  • Experience with or training in any of the following; Six Sigma, TPM, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, RCFA, and 5S.
  • Project management and supervisory experience required.
  • Experience in union environment strongly preferred but not required.
  • PLC/DCS/SCADA and drive experience a plus.

Required Experience

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must be proficient using an “Auto-CAD”. Experience in developing close tolerance fabrication drawings, ability to develop scaled plant layouts, maintain a drawing database, and “as-built” drawings.
  • Must have understanding and capability to review, correct, or write complex PLC programs.
  • Must have Safety focus, have LOTO Program exposure and Safety training/certifications.
  • Proficiency in SAP, maintenance module required.
  • Ability to direct focused improvement teams, lean project support, and RCFA’s
  • Person must be a self-starter, highly motivated, results and data driven.
