Plant Services Baler/Janitor


The Plant Services employee performs general housekeeping and janitorial services in the Plant and offices.  This would be a union employee with responsibilities in manufacturing to cover position vacancies and overtime per the contract. Employee must function at high levels of autonomy, quality, and efficiency while maintaining the highest standard of safety.


Job Duties:

  • Janitorial work includes cleaning and inspection of all plant restrooms and break rooms, as well as the general front office cleaning. Cleaning includes all sinks, toilets, floors, walls, and stalls and emptying all trash.
  • Janitorial staff is responsible for emptying trash each shift daily, and sweeping/dusting common areas as required.
  • Sweep, scrape, wipe, dust, wax and scour in various areas as directed.
  • Empty large waste carts into manual baler at shift end.
  • Safely band and transfer bales from Plant Services dept. to Warehouse dept. using powered equipment for transfer
  • Operate auto baler functions and maintains cleanliness of the area daily
  • Drive motorized carts and floor cleaning equipment.
  • Remove dirty rags, trash, trash containers, etc. to designated areas.
  • Wash windows, walls, venetian blinds, etc. when necessary.
  • Applies painting materials such as interior or exterior grades of latex, enamels, primers, stains, fillers or varnish with brush, roller or spray gun.
  • Cut stencils and paint. Install signs for office and plant areas.
  • Will be assigned to work with Operations when needed.
  • Diligently practice good safety and housekeeping techniques in accordance with the Shop Rules.
  • Will be required to work with skid shop personnel and janitorial personnel and relieve, during vacations and illnesses.
  • From time to time, job requirements will entail additional duties as assigned by supervision.
  • Maintain supplies and housekeeping of the manufacturing areas.
  • Diligently practices good safety and housekeeping techniques in accordance with the Shop Rules, Safety Rules and Safety Absolutes.


  • Ability to read and understand written instructions in English and safety guidelines
  • Operate power tools and equipment as trained
  • Job requires exposure to weather, dirt, grease, fumes and heat
  • Good organizational/time management skills
  • Ability to work independently, accurately and safely under pressure
  • Self-motivated and ability to plan work
  • Be able to push, pull, bend and lift 50#

Physical Demands:

  • Required to do various types of physical work (more than 50% of the time).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. at a time on occasion.
  • Climbing extension ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or movement within confined areas.
  • Work in buildings and areas of fluctuating temperature.
  • Exposure to weather, dirt, grease, fumes and heat.
  • Standing for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts plus overtime as required.

Hourly Rate:  $23.43/hour


Shift Differential:

12-hour shift schedule

8-hour shift schedule

$0.40/hour Days

$0.90/hour Nights

$0.30/hour Swing shift

$0.40/hour Nights

Days: 6:30 am to 6:30 pm shift pattern of 2-2-3

Nights: 6:30 pm to 6:30 pm shift pattern of 4-3-3-4


Days: 6:30 am to 2:30 pm

Swing: 2:30 pm to 10:30 pm

Graveyard: 10:30pm to 6:30 pm
