The Graphic Packaging International Portland plant is an international supplier of flexible food packaging structures. The plant core processes are continuous web including multi-color flexo-printing, extrusion coating, and water based coatings. Finished products are in roll form and to support this we have a department of finishing equipment dedicated to convert large internal rolls to final customer specifications.

We currently have immediate openings for a career minded individual to join our team as a Press Assistant. The plant is a 24/5 operation part of the year and at 24/7 operation part of the year. Successful applicants must be available to work all shifts and overtime.

Job Duties:

  • Load and unload raw and finishing stock on presses
  • Check in viscosity and PH
  • Install and remove plate and anilox cylinders
  • Clean plates and anilox cylinders
  • Install and remove ink tanks
  • Add fresh ink to ink tanks
  • Assist operator wash print drum
  • Assist operator pumping up and draining down ink
  • Assist in webbing up the press

Job requirements:

  • 18 years or older
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Able and willingness to work all days and shifts, including weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime
  • Pass post offer physical, drug screen and criminal background check
  • Print on Paper
  • Must be able to distinguish colors
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
  • Familiar with high-speed web processes.
  • 1 year of experience in a production printing environment
  • Entry Level Computer skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly
  • Must be able to read and write English
  • Must be able to work night shift
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts
  • Must be able to work overtime
  • Must be able to work weekends
  • You will be required to wear steel toes shoes, hair and/or beard nets, safety glasses and earplugs at a minimum

Skills that would be a plus:

  • Knowledge of SAP, Lean Manufacturing, printing on paper and/or poly film, can show demonstrated successes, and have worked with up to eight (8) color line or register (process) print are a plus

 Shift Schedule:

  • Press department:  8 hours, days, swing, or nights (6:30 AM-2:30 PM, 2:30 PM-10:30 PM, 10:30 PM-6:30 AM, Monday through Friday.  Some overtime is required.
  • Finishing department:  Currently on 8-hour shifts.  As we staff up we will be working 12-hour shifts (6:30 AM-6:30 PM or 6:30 PM-6:30 AM)

Employees will first be trained as a Finishing Helper and work either 8-hour shifts or 12-hour shifts depending on the schedule in Finishing   Once they complete that training they will move to the Press Department and being training as an assistant.  Based on our contract, when work is not available in the Press Department they will be assigned to work in the Finishing Department as a Helper at the rate of $19.71/hour.

We are looking for people to help grow our culture to create an incident free work place, using standard work practices to drive out waste and continuously improve equipment reliability all aimed at reducing costs to support our business viability. Hourly Rate:

  • $21.44/hour

Shift Differential:

  • $0.30/hour Swing
  • $0.40/hour Nights

Signing Bonus

$2500 paid every other month for 12 months
