MISSION / SUMMARY: This position reports directly to the Logistics Manager supporting safety improvements, carrier management (rail & truck), shipment planning, inventory management, SOPs and training, roll handling equipment reliability, cost control and production for the Finishing & Shipping operation at the GPI Texarkana Mill. The Sr. Logistics Analyst uses analytical methods and a variety of tools to understand, predict, improve and/or control Logistics operations and processes. Sr. Logistics Analysts are responsible for data management, analyzing performance, identifying problems, and developing recommendations that support Logistics management. Solves problems by considering courses of action within the framework of business goals and standards. Operates with minimal supervision and once given general assignments, prioritizes and executes tasks. Provides and communicates recommendations to upper management. Mentors and guides Logistics Analysts in daily work tasks. Must be a self-starter, detail oriented, able to support and lead multiple projects, possess excellent communication skills, work well with a team, interact with multiple levels and functions with the Logistics organization, and able to manage vendor/business relationships.
JOB FUNCTION: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.
- Actively promote and model safety in all aspects of daily mill operations
- SOP development & sustainment
- Assist in developing training programs for FLLs and hourly employees in the Finishing & Shipping area
- Assist supervisors to implement effective training plans for each shift and develop the workforce
- Assist with implementing continuous improvement
- Assist with executing planned outages
- Assist in carrier management (rail & truck)
- Assist in inventory management
- Manage and support the Logistics Analyst in ensuring executable shipment plans are created in a timely manner; ensure shipments are monitored and exceptions resolved prior to failures; achieve performance measures: vehicle weights, cost to serve, best mode, open door time, direct loading, on time performance, customer fines, routing guide adherence; build and maintain relationships with corporate customer service, supply planning, carriers, facilities and freight strategic sourcing to meet cost and service objectives; proactively responds to internal requests utilizing knowledge of up and down stream business processes
- Assist in all manufacturing activities in a manner that meets or exceeds performance and budget expectations
- Support the goals and initiatives of all departments of the mill
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years experience in manufacturing
- Self-starter with demonstrated ability developing & implementing training programs
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor’s degree or related experience
SKILLS: Skills include but not limited to the following.
- Effective written and verbal communications and problem-solving skills
- Proficient computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office Software, Excel, Word and Outlook
- SAP Business Software Knowledge required
- The incumbent must provide strong leadership and teamwork to ensure safe and efficient operations
SCHEDULE DEMANDS:
- General schedule is M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. The schedule includes weekend duty responsibilities.
- Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.
