OPPORTUNITY: We are a Foodservice cup forming manufacturing operation seeking candidates to join our Shelbyville, Illinois team. JOB SUMMARY: Designs, installs, programs, maintains, tests, adjusts, and repairs electrical/electronic components throughout the plant and warehouses in a timely fashion to ensure that production is minimally impacted. Applies knowledge of electrical/electronic principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation.


JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Maintains a positive team environment
  • Ensure production, warehousing and distribution of products consistent with established food safety, sanitation and quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot various types of machinery and parts using a variety of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, chart recorders, etc.
  • Maintain, diagnose, and repair equipment control systems, including PLC, relay logic, drives, and motor controls of various vintages.
  • Troubleshoot PLC programs; identify processor errors, diagnose and repair hardware/communication issues, including DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, RIO, DH , DH485, Profibus, Ethernet, RS232, etc.
  • Edit PLC programs to support Maintenance Excellence programs.
  • Maintain backup programs on all equipment on S:/drive.
  • Diagnose, repair, and upgrade electrical and electronic components on aging production equipment.
  • Create and maintain all drivers.
  • Identify and install alternative manufacturers/substitute equipment for eliminating obsolescence of support equipment.
  • Proficiency in the following: RSlogix 5, RSlogix 500, Logix 5000, GE Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Automation Direct, Bosch Rexroth.
  • Advanced drive controls and programming skills; diagnose/repair drive faults, wire and install drives, knowledge of VFD’s and servo drives and motors, experience working with Allen Bradley, Yaskawa, Toshiba, Emerson, Baldor, Eurotherm (Parker) drive controls.
  • Ability to install and program parameters for new/replacement drives. Connect to all drives and maintain drive parameters on S:/drive.
  • Identify alternative manufacturers for obsolescent drive controls.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair temperature controllers, pressure controllers, barcode scanners, and other scanners, including Eurotherm, Red Lion, Microscan, Keyence, Banner.
  • Configure controller hardware for all processes. Set and maintain parameters for controllers on the S:/drive
  • Interpret wiring diagrams and schematics. Have the ability to build/troubleshoot with minimal assistance.
  • Knowledge of HMI programming; add pushbuttons, numerical entries, bar graphs, numerical display, and other edits to support Maintenance Excellence program, connect and maintain programs, such as Allen Bradley, Automation Direct, Proface, on the S:/drives.
  • Actively pursue process improvements by identifying obsolescence and resolving production issues.
  • Basic AutoCAD. Keep electrical drawings up to date.
  • Have the ability to lead all major repairs, be the go-to person for shop employees, knowledge of all departments, resolve reliability issues.
  • Ability to train shift electricians.
  • Travel overnight for training opportunities.
  • Manages workload as necessary to ensure production requirements are met. 
  • Communicates effectively with oncoming shift
  • Maintains 5S in assigned area and performs basic housekeeping as needed 
  • Notifies Maintenance Manager of any issues that are beyond the scope of the Electrical Technician duties
  • Actively participates in daily team production meetings – communicates key items within the plant environment on safety, quality, maintenance, production and continuous improvement.
  • Fulfill overtime requirements as needed per the shift supervisor
  • Assist in other areas or perform other duties, as assigned.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor

Required Skills


Experience Required

  • 18 years or older
  • Minimum 5 years’ electrical experience in an industrial environment.
  • Successful completion of skills assessment process.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic components and equipment, including the use of special instruments and diagnostic purposes.
  • Advanced computer experience. (Microsoft Office, SAP, AutoCAD)
  • Advanced PLC programming skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Allen Bradley control logic experience.
  • Ability to read electrical relay logic drawings, single line drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Understanding of single phase and three phase A.C. circuits.
  • Understanding of A.C. and D.C. motor principles.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills; Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel, individually, or in a team environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to direct others and provide verbal or written instructions.
  • Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced/multi-tasked manufacturing environment.
  • Must be able to work any 12-hour shift (A, B, C, D) with periodic breaks.
  • Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without accommodation. This includes: Sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time, up to 12-hours; Lifting to 50 lbs.; Visual acuity and depth perception necessary to operator equipment, and to read computer screen or other electronic devices; Working in various temperatures & humidity levels.
  • Must be willing to work the required average amount of overtime, including holidays and weekends.
  • Ability to provide your own tools not provided by Graphic Packaging International.



  • High School Diploma or GED, required
  • Associates degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field; degree or trade school certificate in related discipline; equivalent experience, preferred 



  • 12-hour shifts with rotating weekends off
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: A Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without accommodation.  This includes: Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time, up to 12-hours; Lifting up to 50 lbs. to a height of 3 feet; Pushing blank carts weighing up to 1,500 lbs. (2-person job); Visual acuity and depth perception; Working in various temperatures & humidity levels.
