OPPORTUNITY: We are a Foodservice cup forming manufacturing operation seeking candidates to join our Shelbyville, Illinois team. This job posting is for a Material Handler - Plastic Lids. JOB SUMMARY: Supplies Packers with KD’s (boxes), poly bags, and other packaging materials as needed.  Duties also include: housekeeping of the department, working in a productive manner, and following all safety guidelines.

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Work within and adhere to GPI’s core values of Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships and Teamwork
  • Perform all duties safely and efficiently, following all company guidelines.  Participate in safety meetings and safety tours.
  • Number and stamp KD’s (boxes)
  • Supply each Packer with poly bags and poly bag tape
  • Perform Packers job in their absence (i.e. break time)
  • Maintain cleanliness in the department at all times (i.e. sweeping floors and emptying trash containers)
  • Order KD’s
  • Empty poly bags
  • Regrind defective lids and lid sheets
  • Clean grease off machines as needed
  • Repack damaged cases of lids
  • Band KD’s to return to the Warehouse
  • Lift KD’s into KD stand
  • Push stacks of corrugated from KD area to machine
  • Roll sheet as necessary
  • Communicate with outgoing Material Handlers for any immediate changes at the beginning the shift                                                
  • Review the department’s scheduled product runs for the shift, any product changeovers, and any incoming KD orders.
    • Prepare paperwork for product changeovers and make the necessary copies and deliver to the employees.
    • Check for damaged KD’s and contact necessary personnel if needed. 
    • Deliver KD’s where they are needed, cut banding and remove banding, scrap cardboard to the designated area.
    • Pick up any empty skates and scrap cardboard and move to the designated area.
  • Fulfill overtime requirements necessary to ensure production requirements are met as well as shutdown and start-up requirements before and after the completion of the shift
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as may be assigned by the department supervisor from time to time

Required Skills

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:

  • Must be 18 years old
  • 1-2 years previous manufacturing experience preferred
  • Well-developed communications and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a high paced and multi-taking environment
  • Maintains positive team environment
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and highly detail oriented
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

 

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 12-hour shifts with rotating weekends off. 
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: A Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, with or without accommodation.  This includes: Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time, up to 12-hours; Lifting up to 50 lbs. to a height of 3 feet; Pushing blank carts weighing up to 1,500 lbs. (2-person job); Visual acuity and depth perception; Working in various temperatures & humidity levels.
