Title: Specialist, HS & E II

Under guidance of the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager, responsible for:
- Supporting systems of accountability for excellence in the areas of health, safety and environmental for a 100 acre location housing 5 manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution facilities, totaling 1.2 million square feet, and with an employee base of 900 employees.
- Supporting compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and Graphic Packaging International guidelines.
- Facilitating projects and processes focused on the prevention and/or correction of unsafe working and environmental conditions.
- Facilitating and participating in job safety and hazard analysis, with a preference for engineering solutions.
- Driving initiatives focused on increasing safety awareness, effectiveness, and efficiency.
- Providing technical support for HSE projects, investigations, site inspections and audits, and safety activities.
- Inspecting property, equipment, and work practices for compliance with regulatory and insurance carrier standards.
- Shop floor HSE coaching and recognition; assisting with implementation and support of HSE responsibilities.
Required Skills
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in HSE in an industrial manufacturing environment, preferred. (Internships acceptable)
EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor's Degree (Occupational Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental, or similar discipline)
- Master’s Degree, or advanced safety certification, preferred.
- Working knowledge of federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations
SKILLS:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate with others within and outside of the facility.
- Ability to develop and implement HSE programs and processes; develop and implement creative solutions.
- Ability to develop and effectively deliver training.
- Software Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint).
- Analytical, critical thinking and organization skills; detail orientation.
- Time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Displays initiative and self-direction; works independently without a great need of supervision.
- Project management skills; ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
SCHEDULE DEMANDS:
- Monday - Friday, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends.
- Occasional travel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sitting, walking, or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
- Occasional lifting to 25 lbs.
- Reading computer screen or other electronic devices; using various office equipment, hand and electrical tools or equipment.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment in designated areas (Safety Shoes, Hearing Protection, Hair & Beard Netting).
- Ability to work in various temperatures & humidity levels depending on building & department (not all areas are temperature controlled throughout facilities).
- Ability to work overtime (greater than 40 hours per week).
- Ability to work any shift, including 12 hours, evenings, and weekends.
