OPPORTUNITY: We are a folding carton manufacturing operation seeking candidates to join our Finishing Department as a Gluer Operator. Our location jobs range in pay from $17.28 to $33.00 per hour for Machine Operators and Technicians. FINISHING GLUER OPERATOR JOB SUMMARY: Operates machine that forms and glues flat cartons into finished cartons. They understand and align business operations and the Department as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

 

Primary Responsibilities are, but not limited to the following:

  • Completes make ready for multiple size, shape, and type cartons.
  • Fills glue pots with adhesive and positions rollers to dispense glue onto paperboard
  • Set up and maintain gluer extrusion systems
  • Observes machine operation to detect and correct malfunction
  • Inspects cartons for flaws
  • SAP reporting
  • Make mechanical adjustments to machine
  • Remove and replace defective or worn components as required
  • Perform weekly and monthly PM as required
  • Train and assist other operators and helpers on shift as needed
  • Track training and development of other operators to improve overall shift operator ability and performance.
  • Complete Daily Management boards and other paperwork as required
  • Monitors, reports and assists to correct speed deficiency on machines in department to include root cause.
  • Assists with scheduling of people and product as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Metrics for success:

  • Improved shift performance in sheets, NSPSH, Gluer efficiency, make ready time, downtime and uptime.
  • Improved cross-training, understanding and ability of operators on shift.
  • Improved operator engagement and teamwork on shift.

Required Skills

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-3 years Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • 1 years of gluer operation preferred.

SKILLS:

MECHANICAL SKILLS

Mechanical ability to troubleshoot, adjust, and measure.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

  • Variable: Schedules are up to 12-hour shifts on alternate days with rotating weekends off. However, employees must have the ability to work each shift on alternate schedules and overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekend to accomplish training needs.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing, depending on changing job assignment, for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment.
  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature.
