ASSISTANT PRESS OPERATOR

Our Staunton, VA facility to looking for an Assistant Press Operator for our Printing area. This position will be responsible for assisting the Pressman on processes regarding make-ready, operations and maintenance of the printing press, in doing so efficiently, safely and accurately.

Primary Responsibilities are, but not limited to the following:

  • Ability to read and follow job specifications to determine press set-up materials needed to run the job successfully
  • Adjusts press machine parts, such as feeder and delivery mechanisms, suction grippers, guides, feed wheels, jogging devices, tapes, and cams, using hand tools.
  • Assist in removing and replacing worn rollers and adjusting pressure between rollers of press, using hand tools.
  • Wash blankets and cleans ink and ink distributing rollers and ink fountains, using ink solvent and cleaning mechanism on press.
  • Assist Press Operator by making necessary color or register corrections and/or press adjustments prior to production run to meet and maintain the quality specifications of the work.
  • Assists the pressman in any maintenance of the press.
  • Follows all company safety requirements
  • Comply with all company rules and regulations
  • Performs other duties as required to achieve the overall goals and objectives of the Company.

An individual in this position must be able to learn and demonstrate the following skills;

  • Proficient in reading, writing and speaking to receive and give directions and instructions
  • Perform mathematical functions as related to press operations
  • Safely perform all tasks on and around press equipment
  • In depth Knowledge of printing processes
  • Strong Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Use of hand truck / material handling
  • Understands job jackets and customer specifications
  • Working knowledge of raw materials and ability to determine the differences in substrates.
  • Knowledge of Heidelberg printing presses, function and maintenance
  • Basic understanding of work flow in a production environment.

 

Essential Job Functions include the following:

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally (1-10% of the time) lift up to 20 pounds
  • Frequently (11-33% of the time) lift up to 50 pounds; from floor to waist
  • Frequently (34-66% of the time) standing and walking
  • Occasionally (1-33% of the time) bending, squatting, climbing, reaching above the shoulder and at waist level or lower, stretching, twisting, pushing, pulling, carrying, kneeling, grasping stooping, and fingering
    • Push/Pull force of 50 pounds for distance of 200’
    • Carrying up to 28 pounds
  • Not at all (0% of the time) sitting or crawling
  • Must be able to wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which includes; safety glasses, steel toed-shoes, gloves when working using chemical, ear plugs and cut resistant gloves. Per our quality standards, you must also wear a hair-net

 

Job Requirements/Preferences:

  • At one year of professional working experience, preferred in a manufacturing environment
  • Must be willing and able to work weekends and overtime as needed
  • High School Diploma/GED not required; preferred
  • Skills: Mechanical, Reading, Writing and Mathematical
  • Position has normal 8-hours shifts; 5 days a week with required overtime on weekends and during the week to meet production needs and cover vacation
